Patent number: 6431971Abstract: This invention provides an abrasive brush having strength and abrasive characteristics similar or superior to those of conventional brushes, and which allows a brush assembly having a desired width dimension and a desired brush surface hardness to be readily and easily assembled. A disk-shaped abrasive brush 1 includes a radial inner hub 5 and a radial outer brush section 3, preferably the hub 5 being integrally formed with the brush section 3. The hub 5 is provided with a flat part, a recessed part 9, 11, and a projecting part 7. When two adjacent abrasive brushes are aligned adjacent to each other, the flat, recessed and projecting parts of the abrasive brushes are engaged with each other and define a pitch between the abrasive brushes.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2000Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventor: Naohiro Nagafuchi

Patent number: 5868036Abstract: A split transport wheel is described including first and second wheel halves, each having an arcuate external tire receiving surface spanned by a joint surface. The two halves may be selectively assembled with the joint surfaces in juxtaposition and with the tire receiving surfaces forming a relatively continuous tire receiving surface. A clamp assembly releasably joins the first and second wheel halves and is selectively operable to (a) draw the respective joint surfaces together in juxtaposition and (b) release the first and second wheel halves to be separated. A tire, formed of a strip of tire material, may be releasably wrapped about the tire receiving surfaces of the wheel halves. A first tire end anchor on the first wheel half releasably receives one of the strip ends, and a second tire end anchor on the second wheel half releasably receives the remaining tire strip end.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1997Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Inventor: Donald F. Salzman

Patent number: 5624306Abstract: A stacked sanding wheel for wooden panels with radical profiles. The sanding wheel has two sanding members stacked atop one another and mounted to a drive means for rotation about an axis. Each sanding member has a relatively rigid backing portion with an outer surface corresponding in profile to one of the surfaces on each side of the profile edge. The flexible sanding strips assume the shape of the outer surface of each backing portion which, in turn, corresponds to one of the surfaces of the profile to be sanded. The separate sanding members are secured to the drive means in a stacked relationship with their separate sanding strips abutting one another to form a sharp edge corresponding to the sharp edge of the wooden panel's profile.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1994Date of Patent: April 29, 1997Assignee: Visser Irrevocable Trust 1992-1Inventors: Abel R. Casillas, Jose R. Gutierrez, Frederick C. Schneider, III

Patent number: 5492498Abstract: A multi-piece sanding wheel having two sanding members mounted about peripheral portions of a disc-shaped support member that is secured to a drive means. Each sanding member includes a C-shaped backing portion with a sanding strip removably secured about its outer periphery. The sanding strip also has two end sections which are respectfully secured over the ends of the C-shape. In operation, the C-shaped backing portions are attached to the disc-shaped support member with the ends of the two C-shapes substantially adjacent to one another and preferably pinching the end sections of the sanding strips therebetween. The disc-shaped support member of the sanding wheel is separately and removably attached to the drive means wherein the sanding members can be removed from the support member without having to disconnect the support member from the drive means.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1995Date of Patent: February 20, 1996Assignee: The Visser Irrevocable Trust 1992-1Inventors: Abel R. Casillas, Jose R. Gutierrez, Frederick C. Schneider, III
