  • Publication number: 20110092143
Abstract: A hand sanding block accepts the continuous sanding belts that are normally used on electrically powered belt sanders. Shoulder stops and biasing springs within the device allow for two positions of the block and keep the movable tensioning arm from coming apart from the block. One position, the withdrawn position, allows for easy removal, replacement, or adjustment of the continuous sanding belt. A second, or extended position, tensions the sanding belt to keep it in place on the sanding block.

  • Patent number: 7192338
Abstract: A tool for co-operating with a fixing device wherein the tool comprises a tool body in the form of a circular disk, with a central opening and a radially inwardly facing locking surface. The fixing device comprises at least one radially outwardly facing projection of a locking element, which can be actuated manually and with which the fixing device can be releasably connected to the tool. In the locking position the at least one radially outwardly facing projection of the fixing device engages over the inwardly facing locking surface of the tool. The tool body is axially secured and held non-rotatably relative to the fixing device. The at least one radially outwardly facing projection of the fixing device and a support for the tool are arranged axially displaceably relative to each other, wherein the axial displacement travel is blockable by a centrifugal force device.

  • Patent number: 6220948
Abstract: An attachment for an oscillatory sanding or abrading device has a pair of flexible support members for supporting the sanding or abrading material. The initial radius of curvature of the flexible support member may be adjusted by a spring loaded adjustment mechanism. An opposing pair of circular recesses formed in opposing faces of the flexible sheets allows for replacement of the springs. The recesses can be formed at both ends of the flexible sheets. Adjustment of the initial radius of curvature is accomplished by inserting springs of varying sizes into one or both pairs of recesses. The radius of curvature of the flexible support member during the sanding process is then a function of the spring constant of the spring used and the applied pressure. The device thus uses a series of discrete adjustments each of which covers a range of contoured shapes.

  • Patent number: 5474490
Abstract: A finishing tool useful in sanding, abrading and like activities. The tool comprises a block having slots of a predetermined size and shape disposed in opposite ends of the block. The slots are adapted to receive matching holding elements so that a predetermined length of finishing material, such as sandpaper, may be placed across the support surface of the block, the ends of sandpaper being inserted and securely held between the surfaces of the holding elements and the slots. The holding elements are pulled inwardly by retraction elements such as one or more lengths of an elastic material such as a rubber hose interconnecting the holding elements. Passages are provided in the block for housing such elastic members.

  • Patent number: 5383308
Abstract: A hand sanding block is formed with two blocks, which may be of equal or unequal lengths of like cross section and disposed in coplanar relationship with opposed inner ends. The blocks are freely movable towards and away from each other almost to the point of separation, by means of a pair of spaced dowel pins projecting from one block for telescopic engagement in corresponding spring loaded sockets in the other block and are normally held apart in spaced relationship by the springs in the sockets. For mounting and removing an endless sanding belt the blocks are pressed together so the inner ends are in abutting relationship and once the belt is in place, the holding pressure is released so the blocks can move apart to provide tension on the belt.
