Work Guide Patents (Class 451/555)
  • Patent number: 5440953
Abstract: A knife sharpening device includes a vertically-oriented base having a vertically-oriented slot. Mounted on the base, on one side of the slot are two crossed sharpening members of a rod-like configuration. A lower end of each of the crossed sharpening members is anchored in a horizontally-extending pivot pin with a terminal end of each of the sharpening members extending beyond the pivot pins and engaging a horizontally-extending stop pin. The pivot pins are rotatably mounted in the base and extend through the base. A pivot wheel is mounted concentrically on a free end of the pivot pins on an opposite side of the base from the sharpening members. Two radially-extending set screws extend through the pivot wheels and engage a flat surface of the pivot pin to hold the pivot wheels on the pivot pins. Extending between the two set screws, threadingly mounted in the two pivot wheels, is a tensioning spring.

  • Patent number: 5383307
Abstract: A hand held skate blade sharpening tool has a rotatable cylindrical member having an outer sleeve made of a sharpening stone material retained within a channel-shaped body member. Removable screws threaded through the body engage bearings rotatably mounted on the outer ends of the cylindrical member to limit longitudinal movement of the stone within a channel of the body member. The body member has an access slot extending radially from the stone. Elongated guides projecting upwardly adjacent the slot are transversely spaced at a distance substantially the same as the width of the skate blade to guide and limit lateral movement of the blade within the slot. Grooves in the bearings are aligned with the slot whereby the bearings do not interfere with movement of the tool along the skate blade. A transverse groove interrupting the slot and guides is open to the channel exposing the stone sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5363602
Abstract: A portable blade sharpening system including a sharpening device having a main body and a clamping bar for securing a blade to be sharpened. Guide arms having openings are attached to the main body for receiving and guiding a support rod. The support rod is attached to a sharpening hone holder and is movable between a retracted and extended position. The sharpening hone holder has a channel for housing the support rod when it is in the retracted position. The clamping bar includes recessions for providing it with a lowprofile adjacent the clamped blade. The openings of the guide arms are substantially rectangular so that a consistent cutting angle is maintained.
