Abstract: A formed cutter 1 has on its tip side a blade 2 having a spiral cutting part 6 and a spiral flute 8 alternately disposed and rotating around a rotation axis O to perform cutting. The formed cutter 1 is manufactured by forming a depression 6B and a projection 6A with different diameters on a blade forming part 12, forming the spiral flute 8 on the blade forming part 12, and forming a rake face 4 on a side fall of the spiral flute 8 by bringing the grinding tool 18 in line contact with the side wall of the spiral flute 8 along a depth direction of the flute 8 while rotating the grinding tool 18 around its axial center.

Abstract: Described are embodiments of an invention for a method and a tool to produce a textured surface on the retention tab of a storage cell. The tool has a form that fits within the storage cell. The form has a hard material with a hard surface with contacts a surface of the retention tab within the storage cell. The movement of the hard surface across the surface of the retention tab produces a textured surface on the retention tab. The textured interface between a notch of a data storage cartridge and a retention tab of a storage cell provides a consistent and low friction force that retains the data storage cartridge within the cell but allows the accessor to easily remove the data storage cartridge when needed.

Abstract: Devices and methods by which an amount of an abradable material may be removed from the housing of a gas turbine engine. A device of the invention is generally comprised of an abradable material removal tool having a curved abradable material contacting base with a handle or other gripping portion extending therefrom. An abrasive material, such as a sheet of sand paper, may be associated with a contacting surface of the base. The base is dimensioned and provided with a shape that permits its insertion between adjacent leading and trailing fan blades of an engine fan. A manual back-and-forth rotation of the fan while the abradable material removal tool is positioned between the fan blades and depressed against the surface of the abradable material will result in a controlled removal of abradable material along a path traced by the tips of the fan blades.

Abstract: A layer of matrix powder is deposited within a mold opening. A layer of super-abrasive particles is then deposited over the matrix powder layer. The super-abrasive particles have a non-random distribution, such as being positioned at locations set by a regular and repeating distribution pattern. A layer of matrix powder is then deposited over the super-abrasive particles. The particle and matrix powder layer deposition process steps are repeated to produce a cell having alternating layers of matrix powder and non-randomly distributed super-abrasive particles. The cell is then fused, for example using an infiltration, hot isostatic pressing or sintering process, to produce an impregnated structure. A working surface of the impregnated structure that is oriented non-parallel (and, in particular, perpendicular) to the super-abrasive particle layers is used as an abrading surface for a tool.

Abstract: A substrate includes a surface having blind apertures formed therein. The blind apertures formed in the surface are preferably arranged in a regular and repeating pattern, such as with an array. A super-abrasive material fills each of the blind apertures. Each apertures hole has an opening with a cross-sectional dimension in the range of 1 mm to 15 mm. The super-abrasive material filling each of the plurality of blind apertures may be a polycrystalline diamond compact or an impregnated diamond material (such as formed by fused tungsten carbide impregnating randomly distributed diamond particles). The blind apertures may be formed in the substrate using electrical discharge machining.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a cutting or abrasive tool (1) such as a bur or a file that is produced by ceramic injection moulding with specific profiles or teeth. The tool can be a bur or a file that is directly produced by this process with no need for an extra treatment. Such tools are easily and cheaply produced and can be single use tools. The defect line (2) at the mould split plane location may advantageously be used as part of the abrasive or cutting profile. The tool may be made from stabilised zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), pure aluminium oxide (Al2O3) or a mixture of both. The cutting profile may include a face angle of about 5 degrees, a back angle of about 17 degrees and a gullet angle of 78 degrees (see FIG. 2).

  • Publication number: 20130260648
Abstract: A tool is provided for dressing the worn or damaged tip of a welding electrode tip. Electrode tips are typically nominally frusto-conical, and have a pre-determined design taper. The dressing tool has a body. The body has a bore formed to receive the frusto-conical electrode tip. When so received, the body is rotated about the tip. The bore has a dressing member for engagement with the frusto-conical member, the two parts having corresponding design tapers. The body has a torque input interface by which, in use, the tool may be turned by an input torque to cause said tool to turn about the electrode tip, and in so doing to cause said dressing member to hone the tip. The dressing member includes a region of abrasive grit. Different grades of grit may be used. The tool may have an opposed socket suitable for seating on the opposed electrode tip, thereby centering the device automatically and correctly. The tool may be in either male or female form. The handle used to turn the tool may carry information.
