Patent number: 9714053Abstract: A front end portion of a connecting member is fixed to a front apron, and a rear end portion of the connecting member is located vertically higher than the front end portion, and is fixed to a rear portion of a cowl. Therefore, when a rear portion of the front apron is elastically deformed rearward, the front end portion of the connecting member is moved rearward. As a result, upward force is applied obliquely upward, to the front end portion of the connecting member, via the connecting member, and a so-called cancelling moment is applied to the rear portion of the cowl. Thus, rotation of the cowl is curbed, and movement of a suspension tower plate in the vertical direction is curbed.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2016Date of Patent: July 25, 2017Assignee: TOYOTA JIDOSHA KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventor: Takahiro Fukuoka

Patent number: 6565620Abstract: An arrangement for providing combustion air as well as cabin air for a motor vehicle includes an engine air intake duct which opens through the fire wall of the motor vehicle so that cabin air is used for combustion air. Fresh cabin air is continuously introduced to the vehicle cabin through a filter arrangement disposed in the trunk of the vehicle so that atmospheric air is first drawn through the filter element in the trunk of the vehicle to provide cabin air and the cabin air is then drawn for use as combustion air through an opening in the vehicle fire wall. In an additional embodiment of the invention, there is an additional combustion air filter disposed in the cabin of the vehicle for filtering cabin air prior to using the cabin air as combustion air. With this arrangement the combustion air filter is easy to change. The liquid making its way through the meshes of the grills flows, in the flow vacuum between baffle and side wall at the back of the baffle, downwards to the duct bottom and the drainage aperture.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1991Date of Patent: November 10, 1992Assignee: Mercedes-Benz AGInventors: Peter Widmaier, Alfred Jeckel, Rolf Kohler

Patent number: 5145457Abstract: A ventilation air intake structure of a motor vehicle is shown, which comprises two side panels incorporated with both a cowl top panel and a dash upper panel to define an air box which extends along a rear upper edge portion of an engine room of the vehicle. The cowl top panel has a first opening and the dash upper panel has a second opening which is communicated with a passenger cabin of the motor vehicle. A drain chamber is constituted by the hood ridge reinforcing member and one of the side panels. The drain chamber has a downwardly extending narrower passage which is exposed to the open air at a terminal open end thereof. The dash upper panel is formed with a laterally extending channel which has a shallower end portion which passes under the side panel and is exposed at its terminal end to the narrower passage at a position above the terminal open end of the downwardly extending narrower passage.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1991Date of Patent: September 8, 1992Assignee: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yasushi Tanigaito, Ryoji Maeda

Patent number: 5139458Abstract: A fresh-air supply system for a vehicle ventilation device through an air inlet opening in a bonnet or hood swivellably attached to the vehicle bodywork, has a fresh-air duct which starts from the air inlet opening, the first duct portion of which is arranged underneath the air inlet opening on the bonnet and the second duct portion of which is arranged immovably on the bodywork. The two duct portions of the fresh-air duct are brought by the closing movement of the bonnet into a connection position in which a circumferential sealing flange of the first duct portion cooperates with a corresponding sealing flange of the second duct portion. The cooperating sealing flanges of the two duct portions, lying in an approximately horizontal plane, are covered over by the bonnet. The first duct portion is a water-collecting box surrounding the air inlet opening and having a drainage device.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1991Date of Patent: August 18, 1992Assignee: Mercedes-Benz AGInventors: Heinz Koukal, Klaus Arold, Hans Trube, Gernoth Karioth

Patent number: 5081912Abstract: A vehicle vent (12) for exhausting air from a vehicle occupant compartment includes a float valve (32) that prevents water that enters an outlet (24) of the vent from passing into the vehicle through the vent inlet (20) but which has a drain passage (36) for permitting a limited flow of the water to a drain (38) on the vent inlet side of the float valve (32). The vent (12) preferably includes a fan (40) that is most preferably energized by a solar panel (48). Mounting of the vent (12) can be provided on the vehicle roof, on the roof just forward of a vehicle back window, or as part of a sunroof.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1991Date of Patent: January 21, 1992Assignee: Asha CorporationInventor: Alain J-M. Patent number: RE38157Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a high temperature injection molded polymeric rainhat for a heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning air intake of an automotive vehicle is provided. The rainhat includes a flange for adhesively and sealably joining to a portion of the generally planar automotive vehicle cowling encircling a flared air inlet opening. A water dam joined to the flange extends beyond an end of the flared opening. The water dam has an extreme upper edge forming an opening. A foreign matter ingestion preventer has a plurality of first curvilinear supports extending in a first direction over the water dam upper edge opening. Each first support has opposite ends joined with the water dam, and each first support has a middle portion domed above the opening of the water dam. Each first support has a tapered exterior side. The foreign matter ingestion preventer also has plurality of second supports intersecting with the first curvilinear supports.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2002Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: L&L Products, Inc.Inventor: Dean Jeffrey Schneider
