  • Patent number: 8075375
Abstract: A method and apparatus for balancing an HVAC system. The method involves using a plate which is circular in shape and has four inner cut-out portions which are capable of being manually removed by an operating engineer. To reduce flow to a minimum, all four rings are left on the plate. To allow a progressively greater amount of air flow, more rings are removed from the circular plate. Such enables the equalization of the various rooms in an HVAC system without the addition of costly upstream dampers. The circular plate is attached to a duct via four small protruding ear elements.

  • Publication number: 20080014860
Abstract: A method and apparatus for eliminating register boxes, improving penetration sealing, improving airflow and reducing the labor costs to install ceiling registers is disclosed. A collar plate assembly that interfaces with flexible or metal air ducts is provided with at least one spring indentation ring in the collar portion of the assembly to accept two or more locking springs. These locking springs are used to attach the ceiling register to the collar plate assembly. The collar plate assembly uses mounting rails that attach the assembly to either ceiling or wall supports. After the ceiling or wall material is applied, the circular area inside the collar is cut-out to provide access. A trim ring is inserted in the cut-out that attaches between the collar and the ceiling or wall to eliminate air leakage and provide an essentially smooth flow of air from the supply duct into the inside of the structure.

  • Patent number: 6050892
Abstract: An air outlet vent (1) adapted to be mounted in a floor (6) and connected to a heating, ventilating and air-conditioning air supply duct (30) includes a cylindrical housing (2) and a cover plate (4) that covers the top open end of the housing (2). The plate (4) includes a first group of air outlet openings in the form of concentric circular arcuate slits (11) extending over a first sector of the plate (4), and a second group of air outlet openings in the form of radially extending slits (12) in a second sector of the plate (4). The plate (4) is rotatably adjustable in the housing (2). With this arrangement, the direction of the main air flow axis of the air flow pattern generated by the vent can be infinitely rotationally adjusted around an imaginary inverted cone, to direct the air flow where desired and avoid undesirable drafts, while still providing a highly turbulent twisting or spiraling air flow characteristic.

  • Patent number: 5607354
Abstract: An air distribution unit for mounting in the wall or floor of a room having a plenum space behind the wall or floor, comprises a housing having an air inlet for communication with the plenum space and an air outlet; a blower between the air inlet and air outlet for drawing air from the plenum space and exhausting it through the air outlet into the room; and a grill assembly mounted over the air outlet. The grill assembly has aerodynamically profiled air distribution channels which may be circumferentially disposed, extending between the upper and lower surfaces thereof. The air distribution channels open out onto the upper surface of the grill assembly at a shallow angle in a radially outward direction so that air flowing out of said channels is directed outwardly at an angle of between about 15.degree. and 45.degree. to the plane of the grill assembly.

  • Patent number: 5209402
Abstract: A laminar flow diffuser has a plurality of round, thin, stacked plates. A central bore penetrates all the plates with the exception of the bottom plate. The diffuser is secured to the vacuum chamber port. When gas enters the port, it enters the central bore and then flows radially outward through the interplate spaces to the outer circumference of the plates and subsequently into the periphery of the chamber. The diffuser thereby provides a controlled laminar flow which prevents turbulence in the chamber and hence, reduces the possibility of contamination to the workpiece in the chamber. The laminar flow diffuser is easily cleaned, both during its initial assembly and later after use, because it chiefly has flat surfaces which do not harbor dirt or gas.
