Patent number: 11781449Abstract: The invention provides various designs of an apparatus and method for attemperating a gas stream temperature. The apparatus of the present invention provides a body through which a gas stream passes that permits, as desired, a second gas, such as gas outside of the gas duct or such as ambient air, to be added to the main gas stream to attemperate the temperature of the main gas stream. The body or device may be referred to as a variable eductor having a plurality of openings through which a second gas may pass into the main gas stream. The openings may be opened or closed, and the variable eductor provides control over which openings and the degree to which each opening is opened. In some designs the variable eductor is inserted between two portions of a gas duct. The variable eductor has widespread application, such as downstream of a gas turbine to attemperate the exhaust gas temperature during startup.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2018Date of Patent: October 10, 2023Assignee: Electric Power Research Institute, Inc.Inventor: Merrill Stanton Quintrell

Patent number: 6149513Abstract: Disclosed is a ceiling grille for an air conditioner of a recreational vehicle. A center grille part is disposed on a lower surface of the ceiling grille for discharging cooled air in a vertical downward direction. The center grille part has a first center opening. A closure member is arranged above the center grille part for opening and closing the center grille part while being moved up and down. The closure member has a second center opening aligned with the first center opening and a cam part placed around the second center opening. A guide section guides upward and downward movements of the closure member. A spring is intervened between the center grille part and the closure member for biasing upward the closure member. A knob is rotatably fitted into the first and second center openings. A cap member is coupled to the knob to be integrally rotated therewith.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1999Date of Patent: November 21, 2000Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventor: Jeong-Un Lyu

Patent number: 5954580Abstract: The air diffuser of this assembly has a top collar with a free edge and the damper is of conventional construction, having a central core and a set of radially outwardly extending strut arms. In the central core is mounted a vertical actuating screw for adjusting the air deflector blades of the damper. The outer ends of the strut arms are formed with a stop member resting over the top edge of the diffuser collar and with a system to deform the collar walls so as to lock the strut arms to the collar against axial movement and against rotation. The stops serve to locate the damper in its proper operative position so as to direct the air uniformly over the air diffuser baffles.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1997Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: Thermolec Ltee.Inventors: Camille Adib, Boonley Fu

Patent number: 5607354Abstract: An air distribution unit for mounting in the wall or floor of a room having a plenum space behind the wall or floor, comprises a housing having an air inlet for communication with the plenum space and an air outlet; a blower between the air inlet and air outlet for drawing air from the plenum space and exhausting it through the air outlet into the room; and a grill assembly mounted over the air outlet. The grill assembly has aerodynamically profiled air distribution channels which may be circumferentially disposed, extending between the upper and lower surfaces thereof. The air distribution channels open out onto the upper surface of the grill assembly at a shallow angle in a radially outward direction so that air flowing out of said channels is directed outwardly at an angle of between about 15.degree. and 45.degree. to the plane of the grill assembly.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1995Date of Patent: March 4, 1997Assignee: Scots Pine EnterprisesInventors: Peter Mill, Richard Tice

Patent number: 5586932Abstract: An airhouse for supplying conditioned air to the interior area of an enclosed building. The airhouse incorporates one or more blowers having variable speed controllers enabling them to be operated at variable volumetric flow rates. The airhouse housing includes variable area dampers for controlling the inlet of outside or building return air. A dedicated controller is provided for adjusting the inlet areas of the two inlet pathways to provide a constant flow velocity through a direct fire burner through a range of blower volumetric output settings. In addition the units may include variable area diffuser units which tend to maintain constant discharge velocity pressure at various blower volumetric flow rate settings. In addition various control and operating strategies are provided for the individual airhouse units and a distributed array of such units in a large building structure controlled by a central computer.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1994Date of Patent: December 24, 1996Assignee: Professional Supply, Inc.Inventor: Thomas E.
