Patent number: 6688967Abstract: A molded insert for attachment to material of a cover intended for outdoor use to cover an article has a front face, a back face, and a plurality of openings through its thickness. Each opening has a larger area in the front face than in the back face, and is formed so that the bottom-most extent of the smaller area in the back face is higher than the bottom-most extent of the larger area in the front face of the molded insert, when the molded insert is placed in a vertical orientation. There may be a first region in the molded insert where there are no openings formed. Typically, a peripheral margin is formed around the periphery, and an upstanding wall portion extends forwardly of the peripheral margin at least in the top region when the molded insert is placed in a vertical orientation.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2002Date of Patent: February 10, 2004Inventors: Masoud Mafi, Fabian Bortolotto

Patent number: 6439991Abstract: A vent enabling passage of air through a flexible cover such as those used to cover a boat, automobile, truck payload, stored materials at industrial sites, retail outlet outlets and the like. More specifically, the vent is of one piece unitary construction and includes an annular base secured to the flexible cover by adhesive or other conventional securing structure with the base including a central opening aligned with an opening in the flexible cover. The vent further includes a dome shaped louvered cover hingedly connected to the base and oriented in overlying relation to the base with the louvers enabling air passage through the cover and base for circulation of air in relation to the space covered by the flexible cover on which the vent is mounted. A retaining wall extends inwardly and upwardly from the base around the central opening to prevent water from entering the opening.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2001Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignee: Airlette Mfg. Patent number: 6347989Abstract: An air intake manifold for providing air from an exterior of a vehicle to a ventilation system of the vehicle. A primary plenum chamber has an intake passageway formed therein. The intake passageway is adapted to allow air from the exterior of the vehicle to enter the primary plenum chamber. A secondary plenum chamber is located within the primary plenum chamber. A shield is attached to the primary plenum chamber and extends over the secondary plenum chamber. A secondary inlet passageway is formed in an upper portion of the secondary plenum chamber. The secondary inlet passageway fluidly connects the primary plenum chamber to the secondary plenum chamber. A filter member covers the secondary inlet passageway to prevent debris from entering the secondary plenum chamber via the secondary inlet passageway. An outlet passageway is formed in the secondary plenum chamber. The outlet passageway fluidly connects the secondary plenum chamber to the ventilation system.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2000Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Assignee: Paccar IncInventors: Kenneth M. Patent number: 6289834Abstract: A portable collapsible ventilator that is used to direct air currents into a boat hatch, recreational vehicle vent, or other opening in an enclosed space while, at the same time shielding that opening from the intrusion of rain and direct sunlight. The ventilator has a frame of hinged, flexible rods covered with a water repellent fabric with an opening at one end. The ventilator is erected into a freestanding unit by pushing down on the hinge point of the flexible rods and locking them in position with a locking mechanism to form a semi-circular shape. A rod is inserted between the front and center hinge points to extend the open end of the device forward into a rain and sun shielding position. The ventilator is then positioned over the opening to be ventilated and secured in place with attached shock cords. When not in use, the ventilator is collapsed into an elongated shape with the flexible rods aligned and the cover folded around them to enable insertion into a storage bag.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2000Date of Patent: September 18, 2001Inventor: Stephen Phillips

Patent number: 6178908Abstract: A wind scoop for hatches and designed to direct and restrict the amount of wind through a hatch opening and if necessary, cut the wind completely. The scoop is collapsible for easy storage and transportation. A rigid sheet is scored to define foldable walls that form an intake opening and direct the wind therethrough. A wall is pivotally housed within the walls and movable between two extreme positions for allowing maximum air through or blocking it. A removable notched bar bites on the distal said of the pivoting wall to keep the latter at a predetermined position. An elastic cord is attached at one end inside the wind scoop and the other end passes through the hatch opening and it is attached to an elongated member with dimensions larger than the opening. The stretched cord keeps the wind scoop in place.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2000Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Inventor: Brian Stolzenberger
