  • Patent number: 8346313
Abstract: Techniques for dynamically selecting warm-up time for a wireless device operating in the idle mode are described. At each active interval, conditions affecting warm-up of the wireless device at a next active interval are determined. The conditions may pertain to channel conditions, operating conditions, and/or hardware configuration. A warm-up time is selected based on the determined conditions. A wake-up time for the next active interval is determined based on the selected warm-up time. The wireless device then goes to sleep until the wake-up time. In one scheme, the strongest pilot acquired in each active interval is identified, and its pilot strength is averaged to obtain an average pilot strength. The average pilot strength is compared against at least one threshold, and one of at least two possible time durations is selected for the warm-up time based on the comparison result.

Abstract: A communication partner appliance is implemented within a near field communication system. The communication partner appliance includes a receiver, a detector, and a processor. The receiver receives a NFC command signal from another communication partner appliance. The detector detects whether a carrier signal from the other communication partner appliance is present at the receiver at a time other than during a transmission of the NFC command signal from the other communication partner appliance to the receiver. The processor controls a power supply element based on a determination by the detector whether the carrier signal from the other communication partner appliance is present at the receiver. • Patent number: 8306565
Abstract: In a PC card communication terminal that operates supplied with power from a host device, problems such as malfunctions due to a supply voltage drop at the time of high transmission output are prevented from occurring. A baseband processor (1106) selects a transmission-power upper-limit measurement mode when a PC card terminal (1103) is to be controlled for the first time. A supply voltage drop is measured by a voltage measurement circuit (1114) while a load value of a load circuit (1112) is being changed. The load value of the load circuit (1112) when the supply voltage decreases to a permissible lowest supply voltage is obtained. Using a conversion table stored in a memory (1107), the load value is converted into a transmission output and is set as a transmission-output upper limit. In a normal communication mode, a maximum transmission output is restricted based on this transmission-output upper limit.

  • Patent number: 8233440
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for determining transmission power are disclosed. A gain factor of an E-DPDCH in a compressed mode is determined according to the number of E-DPDCH used for initial transmission of data; and the transmission power of the E-DPDCH is determined according to the gain factor of the E-DPDCH in compressed mode. As the gain factor of E-DPDCH in compressed mode is determined according to the number of E-DPDCH for initial transmission of data, the gain factor of the E-DPDCH in compressed mode can be determined accurately, and thus the transmit power of the E-DPDCH can be determined accurately according to the gain factor of the E-DPDCH. Therefore, the waste of transmit power of the E-DPDCH is reduced, and thus the system capacity is improved.

  • Patent number: 8224401
Abstract: A system and method controls a powered device of the user that is connected to a communications network and draws power therefrom. A determination is made if the user is in the vicinity of the communications network by generating a probe packet to a wireless access point (WAP) of the communications network that is returned positive when a wireless communications device of the user that is configured to connect to the communications network via the WAP is connected thereto. If the probe packet is returned positive indicative of the presence of a user, the network switch port of a network switch connected to the powered device of the power is enabled to allow the powered device to draw power from the communications network. The network switch port is disabled when the probe packet is returned negative indicative that the user is not in the vicinity of the communications network.

  • Patent number: 8213979
Abstract: Methods and systems for adjusting a transmit power of a forward link or reverse link signal make use of variable adjustment parameters. The wireless signal is received to obtain a received signal. An observed signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and an observed frame error rate (FER) for the received signal are determined. In an outer loop process, an adjustment increment is selected based on how much the observed FER differs from the target FER, and the target SNR is adjusted by the adjustment increment. In an inner loop process, a power adjustment command is selected based on a comparison between the observed SNR and a target SNR. The power adjustment command instructs the transmitter of the wireless signal to either increase or decrease the transmit power of the wireless signal. The power adjustment increment may also depend on the observed FER.

  • Patent number: 8213864
Abstract: A Bluetooth host in a normal mode is enabled to monitor activities at USB endpoints. A Bluetooth USB radio has one or more active Bluetooth connections with peer Bluetooth radios. When each of the Bluetooth connections is in sniff mode, the Bluetooth host enables cancellation of normal USB activities at USB endpoints to enter a low power mode. The Bluetooth connections are still alive while the Bluetooth host is in the low power mode. In the low power mode, the Bluetooth host is enabled not to poll the bulk endpoint and to poll a USB interrupt endpoint in extended intervals for Bluetooth data received from the Bluetooth USB radio. The Bluetooth host is enabled to switch from the low power mode to the normal mode to process the received Bluetooth data over the bulk endpoint when a specific HCI event is received over the interrupt endpoint.
