Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a filtering process is based on the output side of a multimedia decoder. A navigator monitors the current play position of the multimedia content and compares that position with navigation objects. Each navigation object defines a start position, a stop position, and an filtering action to perform on the portion of the multimedia content that begins at the start position and ends at the stop position. When the current play position falls within the portion of multimedia content defined by a particular navigation object, the navigator activates the filtering action that was assigned to the navigation object. Filtering actions include skipping, muting, reframing, etc., the portion of multimedia content defined by a navigation object. A variety of systems may be used to implement the present invention, such as computer systems (consumer and server), television systems, and audio systems.

Doing so is advantageous, for example, in reducing the overall time between a UE's transmission of data to a relay node on an access link and the corresponding transmission of that data from the relay node to a donor base station on a backhaul link. Of course, that example is non-limiting. More broadly, in at least one embodiment, the present invention provides for triggering a BSR in the relay node right after learning that there is at least one UE connected to the relay node that wants to transmit UL data. Further, one or more embodiments provide a simple method and apparatus for using a relay node BSR to inform a donor base station about the scheduled status of UEs supported by the relay node.

  • Patent number: 8270897
Abstract: A communication control method, for a radio communication system including a radio base station, a radio terminal, and a relay station that receives a radio signal transmitted from the radio base station and relays the radio signal to the radio terminal at a transmission frequency different from a reception frequency, includes broadcasting information on one or more transmission frequencies of radio base stations or relay stations from the radio base station; and determining, by the radio terminal, whether transmission-source identification information included in the radio signals that are received before and after switching the reception frequency match, the switching being conducted based on the information broadcasted from one of the radio base station directly and via the relay station, wherein if the radio terminal determines that the transmission-source identification information matches, the radio terminal omits a terminal registering procedure after frame-synchronization with the radio communication

  • Patent number: 8270901
Abstract: The present invention relates to media broadcast in which memory is used to reduce annoying signal dropouts. A receiver records dropout-free program material and, when a subscriber requests a particular program channel, the radio uses recorded dropout-free program material from the requested channel, only switching to the real-time broadcast, which is subject to dropouts, if the recorded dropout-free program material for the requested channel is exhausted.

  • Patent number: 8260197
Abstract: A radio repeating system has first and second radio terminals, a radio repeater to receive a signal transmitted from the first radio terminal and transmit the signal to the second radio terminal, and a controller to control the radio repeater. The controller has a terminal signal determiner to detect a signal from the first radio terminal to determine whether the first radio terminal is in a transmission halt mode or a transmission mode, a first counter to start counting when a result of detection is the transmission halt mode, and a second counter to start counting when a result of detection is the transmission mode. The controller halts a wireless relay operation of the radio repeater when the result of detection is the transmission halt mode while the second timer is operating, or when the first timer finishes counting.

  • Patent number: 8244173
Abstract: A radio frequency repeater is provided. A donor antenna transmits a signal to and receives a signal from a base station. A service antenna transmits a signal to and receives a signal from a mobile station. A repeater filters and amplifies a signal between the two antennas. A polarization variation unit variably selects a polarization direction of at least one of the donor antenna and the service antenna in response to a detection signal of an isolation detector for detecting isolation between the two antennas. The isolation between the donor antenna and the service antenna can be sufficiently ensured.

  • Patent number: 8170477
Abstract: A wireless communication device includes a first receiver section and a second receiver section. The first receiver section receives a first probe signal from a first transceiver at time t1. The second receiver section receives a second probe signal from a second transceiver at time t2, wherein the first and second probe signals have substantially similar carrier frequencies. The first receiver section then receives a first signal from the first transceiver and the second receiver section receives a second signal from the second transceiver in accordance with an adjusted delay. The first and second signals have similar content and have substantially similar carrier frequencies. The adjust delay corresponds to a delta time that is substantially equal to a difference between the time t1 and the time t2 when the difference between the time t1 and the time t2 compares unfavorably to a delay threshold.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling a mode transition of a mobile station (MS) in a relay station (RS) in a wireless communication system are provided, in which upon receipt of a mode transition request signal from at least one MS within a service area of the RS, the RS determines whether to approve the mode transition request, sets management information for the mode transition of the MS, if the mode transition request of the MS is approved, and transmits the management information to the MS.

  • Patent number: 8150309
Abstract: A wireless repeater includes an internal feedback path for adaptively cancelling an echo between an output antenna and an input antenna. The internal feedback path employs an adaptive algorithm implementing a list having a plurality of list elements. Each list element has one or more echo cancellation parameters and one or more repeater settings. The list may be pruned by employing a minimum distance between elements within the list. A method for stabilizing a wireless repeater includes obtaining an autocorrelation of a signal in a signal path of the repeater, detecting an echo in the signal path based on the autocorrelation, providing a list of elements indicating past successful echo cancellation coefficients and associated repeater settings, and adaptively adjusting an error of the echo cancellation coefficients to cancel the echo in the signal path.

  • Patent number: 8139554
Abstract: Communicating using a mesh network is disclosed. A frame length used for communicating a packet between a first node and a second node of a wireless mesh network is selected. A route from the first node to the second node is determined including one or more intermediate nodes that receive and transmit the packet. Node to node communications within the frame along the route is selected such that a communication latency time is below a predetermined limit time for a predetermined percentage of communications between the first node and the second node.

  • Patent number: 8108004
Abstract: Wireless communications are transmitted from at least two radioterminals to a base station co-channel over a return link using a return link alphabet. Wireless communications are also transmitted from the base station to the at least two radioterminals over a forward link using a forward link alphabet that has more symbols than the return link alphabet. The co-channel signals are deciphered at the receiver, while the radioterminals can use a smaller return link alphabet, which can reduce the power dissipation at the radioterminals.

Abstract: A method and system for normalizing various simulcasting nodes within a distributed antenna system (DAS) simulcast sector uses the simulcast sector's known fiber delays, the distance between the nodes, and its corresponding RF delays. The methodology includes adding calculated delays to the known fiber delays to normalize each node's delay. Each normalized node delay value is equal to the value of the fiber delay of the furthest node plus the respective RF delay distance from that node.
