Abstract: A radio signal detector includes first and second detector circuits. The first detector circuit has a higher detection sensitivity to detect a radio signal earlier than the second detector circuit. The second detector circuit has a lower detection sensitivity to detect the radio signal accurately. When the second detector circuit detects the radio signal, it starts up a microcomputer. When the first detector circuit detects the radio signal, a time counter starts to count time. After being started up, the microcomputer acquires a time difference between the radio signal detection by the first detector circuit and the start-up. The microcomputer determines time of radio signal transmission by a radio signal transmitter device based on the determined time difference, and outputs control information after an elapse of a predetermined time.

Abstract: The detector is reduced in DC power consumption when an input signal is at a low amplitude level. The detector includes first and second input terminals, first and second transistors, and a load element. The first and second input terminals are supplied with complementary input signals reverse to each other in phase. The first input terminal is connected to the first input electrode of the first transistor and the second input electrode of the second transistor. The second input terminal is connected to the second input electrode of the first transistor and the first input electrode of the second transistor. The load element is connected between output electrodes of the transistors and an operating voltage point. A detection voltage resulting from full-wave rectification arises from a circuit node. In the condition where a signal input to the input terminals is at a low amplitude level, the transistors are both in OFF state. Thus, DC power consumption is reduced.

Abstract: A method of checking messages from a network of communication sources includes initially testing the signal strength of a plurality of communication sources, storing the identity of the communication sources with the two strongest signals, and alternatively entering a sleep mode and a wake-up mode, the wake-up mode synchronized to the communication source with the strongest signal. The method further includes testing the signal strength of one additional communication source, switching synchronization to the additional communication source if said source presents a signal stronger than the signal of a stored communication source with the strongest signal, and replacing the identity of any stored communication source if an additional communication sources tested in sequence presents a signal stronger than the signal of said stored communication source.

Abstract: Provided is a driving voltage control module capable of minimizing current consumption and time taken to return from a standby state to a normal state by controlling driving voltages for electronic circuits and systems for communication when a mobile communication transceiving circuit or a communication system is in a standby state in which there is no busy signal. The driving voltage control module includes a regulator for converting an input power voltage into a predetermined level of DC voltage, and supplying the converted DC voltage to an external circuit module as a driving voltage; and a voltage controller for controlling an output voltage level of the regulator, wherein, under control of the voltage controller, a level of the driving voltage is adjusted to be a standby voltage level lower than a turn-on voltage level of a switching device constituting the external circuit module.

  • Patent number: 7809961
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling standby mode in an electronic device. In standby mode, power and clock signals are reduced or stopped to conserve power. The apparatus includes an initiator module coupled to a power and clock control module (PCCM). When the initiator module meets conditions for standby mode, the initiator module sends a standby signal to the PCCM and does not interact with other initiator, target, or interconnect modules. When the PCCM communicates a wait signal, the initiator module enters standby mode. When the initiator module detects a wakeup event, the standby signal is deactivated. In this state, the initiator module may process information but may not interact with other modules. When the PCCM deactivates the wait signal and returns power and clock signal to steady state levels, initiator module may resume normal operation.

Abstract: The issues introduced above are addressed by, in accordance with at least some embodiments of the invention, a communication device that includes various hardware and software components. The communication device also comprises instrumentation logic that detects the occurrences of various user usage events and logs such events. The usage events impart information about how a user is actually using the communication device. The logged usage event information can be transmitted to a server (e.g., a data center) for subsequent storage and/or analysis. User behavior profiles can thus be analyzed to determine, for example, services that users seem to prefer.

  • Patent number: 7769544
Abstract: An autonomous vehicle collision/crossing warning system provides for simple, inexpensive and decentralized installation, operation and maintenance of a reliable vehicle collision/crossing warning system. The autonomous warning system preferably utilizes a single frequency TDM radio communication network with GPS clock synchronization, time slot arbitration and connectionless UDP protocol to broadcast messages among vehicles and components in the warning system. Adaptive localized mapping of components of interest within the warning system eliminates the need for centralized databases or coordination and control systems and enables new vehicles and warning systems to be easily added to the system in a decentralized manner. Preferably, stationary warning systems are deployed as multiple self-powered units each equipped to receive broadcast messages and to communicate with the other units by a low power RF channel in a redundant Master-Slave configuration.

  • Patent number: RE41843
Abstract: A method detects relaying of a contactless data communication by a radio amplifier for intercepting and manipulating the communication to achieve an unauthorized authentication. The method involves transmitting an electromagnetic field successively from at least two spatially separated antennas of a transmitting unit, receiving the transmitted fields in a receiving unit, determining field strength vectors of the received fields allocated to each antenna, and comparing actual values of the vectors with prescribed nominal values stored in a nominal value field that maps the true field strength distribution in multi-dimensional space around the transmitting unit. The actual field strength magnitude and the reception angle between the transmitting antennas can be determined from the vectors and compared with stored nominal values in this manner. When the determined actual values match prescribed nominal values of the nominal value field, the occurrence of a relaying of the signal can be reliably excluded.
