Abstract: Voicemail is received at a voicemail server and converted to an audio file format; it is then sent or streamed over a wide area network to a voice to text transcription system comprising a network of computers. One of the networked computers plays back the voice message to an operator and the operator intelligently transcribes the actual message from the original voice message by entering the corresponding text message (actually a succinct version of the original voice message, not a verbose word-for-word conversion) into the computer to generate a transcribed text message. The transcribed text message is then sent to the wireless information device from the computer. Because human operators are used instead of machine transcription, voicemails are converted accurately, intelligently, appropriately and succinctly into text messages (SMS/MMS).

  • Patent number: 8666372
Abstract: A method and apparatus for displaying presence information for buddies who are at a particular televised event is provided herein. During operation location information for a remote device is received by a presence server. A database is then accessed to determine if the location maps to a TV venue such as a sports stadium. If a match is found between the location of the remote device and its database of venues then currently-available multimedia content is analyzed to determine if an event is being broadcast at that venue at the current time. If it is determined that an event is being broadcast at the venue, then presence data is transmitted to the users having the user of the remote device as part of their buddy list. This causes the users to display the presence information on an ambient display, a display device, an electronic program guide, a banner, or in a list.

  • Patent number: 8660479
Abstract: A digital radio broadcast system includes a processing system that receives first audio content, first program data identifying a first item for the first audio content, second audio content, and second program data identifying a second item for the second audio content such that a start of the first program data is received at the processing system within 0.5 seconds of a start of the first audio content. A digital radio broadcast signal including the audio content and the program data is processed for digital radio broadcast transmission via a transmitter. The processing system stops delivery of the first program data to the transmitter upon receipt of the second program data, the first program data thereby being truncated, and begins delivery of the second program data to the transmitter. A digital radio broadcast receiver can tag content of interest based on a user command registered at the receiver.

  • Patent number: 8655370
Abstract: A system and method for sharing geographical location information among a set of wireless telecommunication devices, such as mobile telephones. A first wireless telecommunication device generates geographical location information of that wireless telecommunication device, either through a resident device such as a GPS device, or has another computer device on the network provide the geographic location information, and then shares the geographical location information through sending the location information to one or more servers for relay to a predesignated target set of wireless telecommunication devices. The server stores the identity of member devices of the target set and controls communication between the first wireless telecommunications device and the member devices of the target set. A second server can be used to modify the geographical information, such as providing a map showing the location of the first wireless telecommunication device and other member devices of the target set.

  • Patent number: 8655382
Abstract: A wireless event notification system that selectively notifies members of events based on their location and/or interests, and devices and method for use therein. The wireless event notification system provides single or multifactor filtering based on one or more of proximity to an event, membership in a subgroup to which an event pertains and/or desire to receive events at the severity level of an event. Superfluous notifications are thereby reduced. Location-based filtering may be done by a notification server device to which member locations are reported or, to enhance member privacy, by wireless client devices using unreported member locations. Additionally, in some embodiments, wireless client devices are distributed by a system administrator to members after the system administrator has registered the members with the system to remove device acquisition, device compatibility and member registration hurdles that can present obstacles to universal participation in the system.
