  • Patent number: 7310514
Abstract: A multimedia communication system is disclosed in which a mobile telephone that originates transmission can detect the media types and formats of a multimedia message that can be received by destination mobile telephones. Information regarding data formats that can be received by each mobile telephone is stored in an MMS user database server. The MMS user database server receives from the transmission-origin mobile telephone destination information and format information for each media type of the multimedia message that is to be transmitted and determines whether the multimedia message can be received at the transmission-destination mobile telephones based on this destination information and format information. The MMS user database server then notifies the transmission-origin mobile telephone the results of the determination, whereupon the transmission-origin mobile telephone determines whether to transmit the multimedia message without alteration or to modify the format of the multimedia message.

Abstract: To address the need for faster location determination by GPS-equipped units, this application describes embodiments of the present invention that provide GPS-assist data to a remote unit (110) that is determining its location. This GPS assist data is relative to a central point of a grid element that contains the particular remote unit. The grid element is a geographical area within which a predetermined number of GPS satellites are viewable from anywhere within the grid element. By providing GPS-assist data for a grid element, the remote unit receives GPS-assist data sufficiently local in nature to help it determine its location more quickly. Also, because there are significantly fewer grid elements than cell sites over a region such as the US, the maintenance of current GPS-assist data on a grid element basis requires less network bandwidth than it would on a cell site basis.

  • Patent number: 7174191
Abstract: Occurrences of at least one of a plurality of telephone number-related speech patterns are identified in an audio stream using speech analysis techniques. At least one number pattern corresponding to the occurrences are thereafter identified and stored for later presentation to a user of a mobile device. The occurrences and corresponding number pattern(s) may be filtered to reduce the likelihood of false detections. Furthermore, the detected number pattern(s) may be augmented to ensure completeness. Users may edit and persistently store the resulting number pattern(s). In one embodiment, a portion of the audio stream may be stored and subsequently subjected to the speech analysis process. The stored portion of the audio stream may be reproduced at substantially the same time that at least one number pattern detected therein is provided to the user. In this manner, telephone numbers in audio streams may be captured safely and conveniently.

  • Patent number: 7171156
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for providing digital quality transmission of audio and non-audio information using low cost components and arrangement. The present invention provides for the transmission of the audio and non-audio transmission by first converting the data to conform to the CD standard format and conditioning the converted signal to thereby generate a conditioned EFM signal. The conditioned EFM signal is used to frequency modulate a carrier. By converting the audio and non-audio information to conform to the CD standard format, the present method provides a low cost means of transmitting the data with error detection and correction. Another aspect of the present invention relates to embedding the non-audio information in the SUBCODE block of the data frame according to the CD standard. The non-audio information may be unrelated to the audio information, and the audio and non-audio information may be transmitted to separate devices.
