  • Patent number: 12170939
Abstract: A timer may be used by a device during registration for one or more services of a telecommunication service provider. The function of the timer is to decrease the time that the device (and, hence, the user of the device) waits for successful registration in instances where the device becomes aware that the user clearly wants to use a service (e.g., make a call). The timer may be configured to start in response to the device receiving user input to establish a communication session during registration, and to stop in response to the device receiving a response indicating a successful registration. If the timer expires during registration, an IMS restoration procedure may be performed to attempt registration using a different approach, which, because of the relatively short duration of the timer, expedites the IMS restoration procedure to establish the session more quickly.

  • Patent number: 12069204
Abstract: A telecommunications addressing system/method allowing selection of a telephone instrument device (TID) using arbitrary identifiers is disclosed. The system/method allows a source TID (STD) to select a target TID (TTD) by the use of a Target Telephone Identifier (TTI) data string rather than a traditional numeric telephone identification (NTI). This TTI is then indexed within a TTI/NTI mapping server (TMS) that functions as a hierarchical repository of TTI/NTI mappings. STD/TTD communication is established by first performing a lookup of the STD-selected TTI within the TMS to identify the NTI of the TTD. Once the NTI of the STD has been identified by the TMS, communication between the STD and TTD is established using the NTI via the normal public switched telephone network (PSTN). TMS TTI lookup may be performed via STD TID web application and/or via PSTN infrastructure interface.

Abstract: A network operator can partition network elements, including elements of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) or Policy and Charging Rules Functions (PCRFs) into groups reserved for specific types of subscribers. When a user equipment (UE) registers with an IMS, elements of the IMS can contact a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) to determine a subscriber type associated with the UE. Based on the UE's subscriber type, an IMS element can determine an application server or other IMS element to contact about the UE based on identifying application servers or IMS elements that are also associated with the same subscriber type as the UE. Similarly, an IMS element can determine a PCRF to contact about the UE based on identifying a PCRF that is associated with the same subscriber type as the UE.

Abstract: A searchable, portable network database of base station information can greatly simplify discovery, selection, and registration of user devices on a preferred cell in 5G or 6G. In addition, based on location, the user device can select the base station that is likely to provide the best signal. The network database can provide all of the static system information of the SSB message, which enables prospective user devices to receive downlink messages without searching for the SSB. In addition, the network database can provide all of the static system information contained in the SIB1 message, which enables prospective user devices to transmit uplink messages without searching for the SIB1. Initial synchronization can be obtained by receiving any broadcast from the base station, or by receiving timing signals from a navigation satellite, among other ways. The user device can thereby avoid most or all of the arduous prior-art cell discovery steps.
