  • Patent number: 9137625
Abstract: The invention relates to a telecommunications network for wirelessly establishing a connection with a terminal located at a location in said network by a server. The terminal is identified by a terminal identifier in the telecommunications network. The telecommunications network contains a first network node and a second network node. The first network node is configured for receiving a data unit for the terminal from the server, that is preferably located outside the telecommunications network. The data unit comprises the terminal identifier. The first network node is being configured for receiving a location identifier indicative of the location of the terminal from the server and for deriving an address of the second network node using the location identifier. The derived address of the second network node is then used for transmitting a first connection request for establishing a connection with the derived second network node.

Abstract: An information analysis unit of a management apparatus searches for a device existing within a predetermined distance from a portable terminal, namely a device positioned near the portable terminal, based on terminal position information received from the portable terminal by a radio communication unit and device position information stored in an information storage unit. The information analysis unit reads, from the information storage unit, energy usage information of the searched device existing near the portable terminal, and transmits it from the radio communication unit to an information acquisition unit of the portable terminal. Thus, the information acquisition unit acquires only the energy usage information of the device positioned near the portable terminal, so that a display unit displays only the energy usage information of the device positioned near the portable terminal.

Abstract: Methods, program products, and systems for managing a location database are described. A server computer can receive location information from location-aware mobile devices (e.g., GPS-enabled devices) located within a communication range of access points of a wireless communications network. The server computer can calculate average geographic locations using the received locations for each access point. Based on the average geographic locations, the server computer can assign the access points to cells of a geographic grid. The server computer can filter the access points in each cell based on popularity, stability, longevity, and freshness of the access point and the received data. When a second mobile device connects to an access point in a cell, the server computer can transmit locations of the access points in the cell and in neighboring cells to the second mobile device such that a location of the second mobile device can be estimated.

The arrival of a received phone call intended to a user equipment (14) coupled to a femtocell (30) triggers a location step, with communication to the switching centre of a rough location comprising the service area codes SAC and location area codes LAC corresponding to the femtocell, and of a fine location comprising unique data, such as IP address and INSEE code, of identification of the Internet box (20) associated to the femtocell. The femtocells may hence operate in open mode, each femtocell being able to be coupled to any user equipment registered with the mobile network operator.

Abstract: A method to define a geographical zone is disclosed. The geographical zone can be utilized to regulate a movable entity and the actions within the geographical zone. The geographical zone can be defined by allowing a user to define and load to a transponder a plurality of waypoints, each waypoint defined by a geographical coordinate and a radius originating from the geographical coordinate. The geographical zone can also be defined by selecting a plurality of coordinates that are loaded to a transponder and mapped on a pixilated image.

Abstract: Techniques for determining time of arrivals (TOAs) of signals in a wireless communication network are described. Each cell may transmit (i) synchronization signals on a set of contiguous subcarriers in the center portion of the system bandwidth and (ii) reference signals on different sets of non-contiguous subcarriers distributed across the system bandwidth. A UE may determine TOA for a cell based on multiple signals transmitted on different sets of subcarriers. The UE may perform correlation for a first signal (e.g., a synchronization signal) from the cell to obtain first correlation results for different time offsets. The UE may perform correlation for a second signal (e.g., a reference signal) from the cell to obtain second correlation results for different time offsets. The UE may combine the first and second correlation results and may determine the TOA for the cell based on the combined correlation results.

Abstract: A method for generating a radio coverage map. A two-dimensional radio coverage map located between a first physical level and a second physical level is generated. The access point is located above the second physical level. The two-dimensional radio coverage map is located at a distance from the access point and comprises a plurality of map points, where the map points have a predicted received signal strength value. A projection window is determined. A projected area on the two-dimensional radio coverage map is determined by computing a geometrical projection from the access point through the projection window onto the two-dimensional radio coverage map. A plurality of first points in a first area on the two-dimensional radio coverage map is identified. The first area is outside the projected area. The predicted received signal strength value of each of the first points is reduced by a value equal to the signal attenuation caused by the second physical level.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for calibration, preprocessing, and segmentation for user localization and network traffic density estimation. The embodiments include sending, from a network component, a request to a plurality of user equipment (UEs) to participate in reporting localization data. Reports for localization data including no-lock reports are received from at least some of the UEs. The no-lock reports indicate indoor UEs among the UEs. The network preprocesses the localization data by eliminating, from the localization data, data that increases the total noise to signal ratio. The localization data is then processed using a model that distinguishes between different buildings. This includes associating, according to a radio map, radio characteristics in the localization data with corresponding bins in a non-uniform grid of coverage. The non-uniform grid is predetermined to maximize uniqueness between the radio characteristics.
