  • Patent number: 7881256
Abstract: A method and apparatus for supervising a dedicated control channel when in the discontinuous transmission mode. The mobile station monitors the frames it receives from a base station and maintains a counter of bad, good, and empty frames, referred to as CNT1, CNT2, CNT3, respectively. If a received frame is a good frame, CNT1 is reset to zero and CNT2 is incremented. If the received frame is a bad frame, CNT1 is incremented and CNT2 is reset to zero. If the received frame is an empty frame, CNT1 and CNT2 are unchanged but CNT3 is incremented. A transmitter coupled to the mobile station is enabled or disabled depending upon which, if any, of the CNTs reaches or exceeds a designated threshold value. In another embodiment, an average aggregated value reflecting the strength of the pilot signals in an active set, measured at the mobile station, is used for comparison to a threshold.

Abstract: Access noise in a spread spectrum communication system (100) is reduced by broadcasting a resource indicator message (116) from a base station (102) and is received by mobile stations (104) in the serving area (103) of the base station. The resource indicator message indicates which resources are supported (202) by the base station, as well as their present availability (204, 206, 208, 210). If a desired resource is not presently available (408), mobile stations will avoid requesting access to that resource (410). When the resource becomes available, access noise can be controlled by having mobile stations wait a randomly selected period of time (414).

  • Patent number: 7873000
Abstract: There are disclosed a random access method for establishing an individual channel between a radio communication terminal device and a base station device in a short time and a radio communication terminal device executing the random access method. In this device, in step ST320, a RACH sub-channel allocation unit (211) allocates a transmission packet inputted from a replication unit (202) to an arbitrary sub-carrier at the RACH arbitrary time slot at random. In step ST330, an allocation unit (210) judges whether an overlap is generated in the allocation result obtained by the RACH sub-channel allocation unit (211). When the allocation unit (210) judges that an overlap is generated in the allocation result, the allocation unit (210) causes one of the RACH sub-channel allocation units (211) which has caused the overlap to again perform allocation of step ST320. On the other hand, when judgment is made that no overlap is generated in the allocation result, step ST340 is executed.

  • Patent number: 7869794
Abstract: A system is provided for managing timely delivery of electronic messages, such as short message service (SMS) messages sent by the short message peer to peer (SMPP) protocol. In particular, the system determines an expected delay for the delivery of electronic messages, so that a sender can avoid sending messages when they will take an excessive amount of time to deliver. In one embodiment, a sender of electronic messages, such as a news service provider, sends a session initiation protocol (SIP) “subscribe” message to a delay manager. The delay manager determines when the expected delay of message delivery at a bulk message gateway falls below a threshold delay. When the expected delay falls below the threshold, the delay manager informs the sender, and the sender may create and send an electronic message.

  • Patent number: 7805108
Abstract: The present invention decreases the time required to determine whether a call connection between a base station and a mobile station in a wireless network has failed during a call set up procedure. A preamble frame detector in the base station detects preamble frames transmitted by the mobile station. When the base station detects missing preamble frames the base station increases the power level of null frames that the base station transmits to the mobile station. The more powerful null frames increase the likelihood of a successful call connection. The base station releases the call if a connection is not made in less than five seconds. The mobile station similarly releases unsuccessful call connections.

Abstract: An originating transceiver node sends a search message to an alternate transceiver node in response to receiving a pilot signal report message from a wireless communication device detecting a pilot signal from a detected transceiver node. The wireless communication device detects a strong pilot signal transmitted from the detected transceiver node at the same frequency used for the pilot signal transmitted by the originating transceiver node. The alternate transceiver node transmits a pilot signal at a second frequency. The pilot signal report message allows the originating transceiver node to determine at least an approximate location of the wireless communication device and to identify the alternate transceiver node as a transceiver node at least potentially able to provide wireless service to the wireless communication device. In response to the search message, the alternate transceiver node searches for uplink signals associated with a pilot signal having the first frequency.
