Detection circuitry may also detect user activated functions performed in response to user activation of one or more switches included with the headset. For example, the headset may include a single switch for performing a function with respect to a microphone (e.g., end-call function).

  • Patent number: 7907721
Abstract: Headsets are used in variety of applications to facilitate one- or two-way audio communications between users and/or devices. The present inventor recognized that conventional headsets lack means for successfully integrating more than one audio source, despite their use in proximity to multiple sources of audio signals, such as cell phones, laptops, aircraft radios, and so forth. Accordingly, the present inventors devised one or more devices, circuits, and methods related to connection of at least two audio input signals to a headset. For example, in one embodiment, an active-noise-reduction (ANR) headset includes at least one auxiliary port for connection to an output of at least one device, such as a personal communications, computing, and/or entertainment device. This exemplary headset also includes a primary port for connection to a two-radio or public-address system and circuitry for automatically suppressing or muting the volume of an auxiliary input signal relative to that of a primary input signal.

Abstract: In exemplary embodiments, a hands-free adapter provides hands-free operation of a device. The adapter communicates with the device, and in some embodiments, with a headset. The hands-free adapter allows a user to use voice commands so that the user does not have to handle the device. The hands-free adapter receives voice commands from the headset and translates the voice commands to commands recognized by the device. The hands-free adapter also monitors the device to detect device events and provides notice of the events to the user.

Abstract: When a unit lock member (130) is engaged with a SIM card (220) mounted in a unit retention mechanism (120), a battery pack (210) can be mounted or removed. When the battery pack (210) is removed, the unit lock member (130) is permitted to slide thereby enabling mounting or removing the SIM card (220). Thus, the SIM card (220) cannot be mounted or removed while the battery pack (210) is mounted. Still, the battery pack (210) and the SIM card (220) are separately located in a plane, and hence a terminal main body (110) can be made thinner, and the presence of the SIM card (220) can be confirmed without the need to remove the battery pack (210).

Abstract: A headset terminal for speech applications includes a headband assembly, an earcup assembly and a power source assembly. Processing circuitry is positioned in at least one of the earcup assembly and the power source assembly and includes speech processing circuitry for recognizing and synthesizing speech. A radio communicates with a central system to process the activity information of the headset terminal user. A rotatable microphone boom assembly includes controls mounted on opposite sides of a rotation axis to maintain a consistent orientation on the boom assembly with respect to the head of a user. The boom assembly snaps together with the earcup assembly to rotate. The headband assembly includes at least one transverse band and a sliding arm coupled to the earcup assembly for dynamically adjusting the position of the earcup assembly. A latch of the power source assembly snaps into position to secure it with the assembly and slides between latched and unlatched positions to secure a battery.
