  • Patent number: 8644763
Abstract: A method and/or apparatus for cooperative transceiving between wireless interface devices of a host device includes processing that begins by providing an indication of receiving an inbound packet from one wireless interface device (e.g., Bluetooth compliant radio transceiver, IEEE 802.11 compliant radio transceiver, etc.) to another. The wireless interlace device receiving the indication processes the indication and, based on the processing, transmits an outbound packet in accordance with the processing of the indication. For example, the wireless interface device receiving the indication may delay transmission until the other wireless interface device has received the packet, or, if transmission of the packet would not interfere with the receiving of the packet by the other wireless interface device, the wireless interface device receiving the indication would transmit its packet.

  • Patent number: 8639194
Abstract: A method and device for providing impedance tuning to compensate for capacitive loading effects on an antenna which are associated with conductive or physical components in close proximity to the antenna is provided. A dynamic impedance tuning (DIT) controller periodically receives information that indicates that one or more functions of a physical component and/or a particular device operating state are currently active. In response to one or more functions of the physical component being activated, the DIT controller configures the tunable impedance to a pre-set impedance level to compensate for capacitive loading effects on the antenna. In addition, the controller triggers a switch to connect the tunable impedance to the ground signal line to provide antenna tuning corresponding to the preset impedance level. The tunable impedance adjusts the terminal impedance of the ground signal line to minimize capacitive loading effects associated with the signal line.

Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to systems and techniques for reducing power consumption in a mobile computing device. In one or more embodiments, a mobile computing device may be arranged to determine a user environment based on detected antenna impedance or detected current. After the user environment is determined, the mobile computing device may confirm that total radiation power (TRP) for the mobile computing device at an initial conducted power level exceeds the minimum TRP threshold required by the network carrier to receive acceptable quality of service (QoS). Based on the excess TRP for the particular user environment, the mobile computing device may determine a reduced conducted power level to be input to an antenna system. Accordingly, significant power savings may be achieved. To save additional power, the mobile computing device may automatically adjust and/or improve antenna impedance matching based on user environment allowing a further reduction in conducted power.

Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for transmitting a channel sounding signal from a user terminal in a multiple antenna system. In the method, a channel for each of a plurality of antennas is estimated. The receiving signal power of each of the antennas is calculated using the channel information obtained through the channel estimation. The antenna with the highest RX signal power is selected. Therefore, it is possible to enhance the signal reception performance of the user terminal.

  • Patent number: 8570982
Abstract: Multiple-In Multiple-Out (MIMO) techniques are used to increase spectral efficiency of a cellular single frequency network. In some embodiments with single transmit antenna per cell, multiple data streams are transmitted from multiple cells, one data stream per set of transmit antennae. The mapping of streams to antenna sets is permuted in time. In this way, user equipment devices (UEs) at cell edges benefit from MIMO, and UEs near cell centers benefit from high carrier-to-interference (C/I) ratio of the signal. In some embodiments, each stream is concurrently transmitted on base layer of a hierarchically modulated signal from one set, and on enhancement layer of a hierarchically modulated signal from another set. The mapping of sets to streams is permuted in time. The UEs at cell edges benefit from MIMO, and the UEs near cell centers benefit from the high C/I to decode both streams from the base and enhancement layers.
