Single Message Via Plural Carrier Wave Transmission Patents (Class 455/59)
  • Patent number: 8199854
Abstract: An encoder encodes sound data and the like to generate a binary signal. A mapper converts the binary signal into a four-level symbol and outputs the four-level symbol. A base band filter includes a root raised cosine filter and a sinc filter. The base band filter blocks a predetermined frequency component of a symbol to shape the symbol into a waveform signal and outputs the waveform signal shaped. An FM modulator transmits a signal subjected to FM modulation according to a magnitude of an amplitude of a waveform signal to a receiving unit. When a symbol of ±3 is outputted from the mapper, a frequency shift of a signal transmitted from the FM modulator has a predetermined value in a range of ±0.822[kHz] to ±0.952[kHz]. This makes it possible to provide a modulating apparatus, a mobile communication system, a modulating method, and a communication method that use a modulating method that can conform to the FCC rule to be enforced in 2005 without using a linear power amplifier.

  • Patent number: 8184730
Abstract: A method for selecting a frequency band, from among a plurality of frequency bands controllable by a radio network controller (RNC), to carry a data communication. The method may include obtaining frequency band usage measurements for a plurality of frequency bands, and using the frequency band usage measurements to select a particular frequency band of the plurality of frequency bands to carry the data communication. Frequency band usage measurements may be based on how many idle slots (and/or data channels) are carried through each of the plurality of frequency bands during a measurement time period. A comparison of the frequency band usage measurements can be used to determine which frequency band sent the greatest number of idle slots (or the fewest number of data channels). The method provides for selecting a frequency band best suited (e.g., has the most available capacity for carrying a data communication) for carrying the data communication.

Abstract: When a UE (102) determines that non-control data needs to be transmitted, the UE will receive a grant that comprises information identifying a resource block (RB) for transmissions by the UE. If the UE determines that the RB is also used for transmitting control data, it will know to transmit only over the portion of the RB used for non-control data transmissions. Rate matching will then be performed on the non-control data that needs to be transmitted and the non-control data will be transmitted only over a portion of the RB. The second portion of the RB will be used for normal control data transmissions by other UEs.

Abstract: A channel response matrix is obtained by performing a training process between a transmitter 401 and a receiver 402 to obtain optimal signal phases of the antenna array. Next, a singular-value decomposition (SVD) process is performed to decompose the channel response matrix into a correlation matrix and eigenvalues. Next, a diagonal matrix having square roots of the eigenvalues as its components is obtained. Next, all but one of diagonal components included in the diagonal matrix are replaced with zeros, and optimal setting of the amplitudes and phases of signals to be applied to the antenna array (antenna weight vector) for use in wireless communication between the transmitter and the receiver is obtained based on a channel response matrix that is reconstructed by using the component-replaced diagonal matrix. In this way, when wireless communication is implemented by performing beam forming, the time necessary to find and set a beam direction can be reduced.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of producing a multi-layered OFDM symbol using a plurality of small IFFT blocks. The produced OFDM symbol is able to reduce complexity in performing IFFT or FFT while maintaining orthogonality of a related art OFDM symbol. In particular, by avoiding the related art scheme using the N-sized IFFT, the layered IFFT is executed in a manner of grouping N data symbols into P groups each of which includes Q data symbols (N=P?Q). In order to produce an OFDM signal equal to that of the related art N-sized IFFT, it is preferable that phases are aligned for the data symbols on which Q-sized IFFT has been performed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing user capacity in a multi-user communication system. The method comprises transmitting a signal multiple times in the communication system with a predetermined delay between each retransmission. A receiver receives the signals and makes multiple delayed copies of the signal which are then summed. A second signal is then transmitted multiple times in the communication system with a different delay time between each retransmission than the first signal, and then received by a receiver which makes multiple delayed copies of this second signal which are then summed and decoded. This process is then used on subsequent signals in the communication system.

Abstract: Wireless communications transceivers include a transmitter that is configured to selectively frequency shift and transmit portions of broadband information over multiple non-contiguous narrowband frequency bands/segments, each of which is too narrow to carry the broadband information. A receiver also is configured to receive and selectively frequency shift portions of broadband information from multiple non-contiguous narrowband frequency bands/segments, each of which is too narrow to carry the second broadband information. Broadband information thereby may be transmitted and received in a regulated communications environment, even though a given provider may only be assigned discontinuous frequency bands/segments, none of which is wide enough to carry the entire broadband information.

Abstract: A cellular communication system employs a plurality of bandwidths. The cellular communication system comprises a plurality of base stations (101, 103) each of which transmits a reference signal comprising a Generalised Chirp-Like, GCL, sequence. The length of the GCL sequence is dependent on the bandwidth employed by the base station (101, 103). A sequence generator (105) provides a first subset of GCL sequences for a first bandwidth selected from a set of possible GCL sequences for the first bandwidth in response to properties of a sub-sequence of GCL sequences. The sub-sequence has a length corresponding to a different bandwidth. Sequence processors (107, 109) select GCL sequences for base stations (101, 103) employing the first bandwidth from the first subset of GCL sequences. The invention exploits characteristics of GCL sequences to enable, facilitate or improve multiple bandwidth operation.
