Torque Transmitted Via Resiliently Biased Positive Drive Connection (e.g., Cam And Follower) Patents (Class 464/37)
  • Patent number: 6168402
Abstract: The invention relates to a scroll-type compressor which will not exert an undesirable influence on a power source of a rotation shaft, even if seizing occurs between an orbiting scroll member and a fixed scroll member. A power transmission mechanism P is provided between a rotation shaft 7 and an eccentric drive pin 25 for transmitting power to an orbiting scroll member 14. An inner wall of a bore of a closed ended cylindrical member 40 with an eccentric drive pin 25 protruding from a base end thereof is formed in the height direction of the cylinder with a plurality of grooves 44 of semi-circular cross-section. Moreover, a cylindrical resilient roller 43 is centrally provided on the closed end with a height approximately the same as that of the closed ended cylindrical member 40. Rollers 42 are provided so as to be inscribed in each groove 44 and so as to come into contact with an outer peripheral surface of the resilient roller 43.

Abstract: A torque limiting ratchet mechanism disposed within a crank handle. The ratcheting mechanism includes a ratchet disk having inner projecting portions which engage a shaft for rotational purposes, and resilient outwardly projecting portions which are engagable in indentations formed in an inner surface of the ratchet handle. The torque limiting ratchet mechanism of the present invention is particularly utilized in a bicycle mounted exercise trainer. In this utilization, one cone of the mounting system is laterally fixed and the other cone, which is engaged to the torque limiting ratchet is laterally movable to clamp the axle of the rear wheel. Due to the large variation in bicycle rear wheel axle geometries, the roller portion of the wheel resistance mechanism is made longer to accommodate the single-sided movement of the mounting cones of the trainer.

Abstract: The invention relates to a shut-off valve comprising a valve housing (12), a valve piston with valve cone (22) arranged up-stream of an associated valve seat (20), and a piston holder (16) axially movable within the valve housing (14) by means of a spindle (58) and accommodating said valve piston. To prevent overtightening of the valve piston, the piston holder (16) is connected to the valve housing (14) in the manner of a slip clutch. In addition, the outlet port (146) of the shut-off valve can be closed by a non-return valve.

  • Patent number: 5059210
Abstract: A delivery system for attaching and detaching an ultrasonic surgical blade/coupler and an acoustical mount. An adaptor sleeve receives and encapsulates the blade to avoid accidents resulting from the sharp blade edge. A cylindrical member receives the sleeve and a ratcheting mechanism is provided between the adaptor and member to facilitate rotation of the adaptor and coupler upon rotation of the member up to a predetermined torque, ensuring threaded connection between the coupler and acoustical mount sufficient for transmission of ultrasonic energy. To remove the blade/coupler, the member is rotated in the opposite direction, whereby unlimited torque may be applied through the ratchet mechanism to unthread the coupler from the mount.

  • Patent number: 5027933
Abstract: A clutch for a tire lift/carrier winch includes a drive plate and a driven plate having a plurality of elongate springs thereon. The driven plate includes circumferentially spaced driven end portions which are positioned in driving engagement with circumferentially spaced drive portions of the drive plate to permit rotation of the driven plate upon rotation of the drive plate when the load on the cable winding spool is within a prescribed limit. However, when the load on the cable winding spool exceeds the prescribed limit, the elongate springs on the driven plate function as cantilevered spring segments deflectable about respective fulcrums in such a manner as to prevent rotation of the driven plate upon rotation of the drive plate.

  • Patent number: 4842126
Abstract: A flight section for mounting at the feed end of an auger comprises an intergral moulding from a resilient elastomeric material such as natural rubber which includes a central sleeve portion and an outer flight. The sleeve has an inner surface for engaging around a shaft with the surface defining a part cylindrical portion and a flat portion by which torque is communicate from the shaft to the sleeve portion while allowing slippage to occur by distortion of the resilient sleeve portion when the torque exceeds a predetermined maximum. The flight extends over 360.degree. and is shaped so that it increases in transverse width or thickness as it approaches the outer edge thereof thus defining a flat band around the outer edge. This acts to define a curved surface facing the material to be fed which cups the material and reduces slippage.

  • Patent number: 4802326
Abstract: An overload coupling for the protection of drive trains on machines, particularly agricultural machines powered by a tractor, protects against overloading in at least one rotational direction. A coupling sleeve is mounted for rotation around a coupling hub of the overload coupling. Relative rotation between the hub and sleeve is about a coupling axis. A plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses are provided in the coupling hub which each contain a rotatably mounted rotor. The rotors are mounted about their own rotor axes which are parallel to but spaced apart from the coupling axis. Each rotor contains a radially movable driver cam which is spring-loaded and has cam surfaces for engaging detent grooves in the sleeve. With the driver cams engaged in the detent grooves, relative rotation between the hub and sleeve is resisted. By shaping the cam surfaces and adjacent abutment surfaces of the driver cams, the direction and force of disengagement can be set between the coupling hub and coupling sleeve.

A circular member positioned radially inward of the balls engages and yieldably holds the ball in the ball-receiving recesses during torque transmission from the input shaft to an output shaft and is yieldable upon the application of excessive torque to permit the balls to move inwardly and travel past the teeth to limit the value of the torque that is transmitted.

  • Patent number: 4766641
Abstract: A clutch mechanism for use in the drive mechanism for a vacuum cleaner floor cleaning rotary brush is provided which prevents damage to the drive belt in the event the brush becomes jammed and is prevented from rotating. A cam ring having external bumps carried on resilient beams is nested inside a driven sprocket with the bumps positioned in valleys between ridges formed on the interior of the sprocket. A pair of end caps sandwich the assembly of the cam and sprocket. The cam is keyed to the rotary brush and thus when the brush becomes jammed, the sprocket will continue to rotate, and the torque applied between the sprocket and cam will cause the ridges to push radially inwardly against the bumps and beams of the cam permitting the bumps to pass over the ridges dissipating the energy of the rotating sprocket.
