  • Patent number: 8388457
Abstract: A vehicle, such as off road vehicle, includes a plunge pin assembly located in a flexible joint, which maybe actuated without tools to decouple and thus remove a driven system from a driving system. The plunge pin assembly includes a plunge pin biased to an installed position such that a clip of the plunge pin assembly retains the driven system to the driving system during operation of a vehicle. The clip (e.g., circlip, snap ring, coil spring or crest wave spring) is circumferentially contractable and expandable. A transfer element cooperates with tapered and recessed contours of the plunge pin to permit the aforementioned actuation of the clip. Movement of the transfer pin along with contraction of the clip allows the driven system to be decoupled from the driving system. The plunge pin may include a head portion positioned at a desired distance from a drive axle of the driven system.

  • Patent number: 7488134
Abstract: A shaft body has an engagement portion with a slip-off preventing groove, and a positioning recess extending from the engagement portion. A shaft joint having an engagement groove to be engaged with the engagement portion and a bore facing the engagement groove is provided with a flexible member which is provided on an outer side in a longitudinal direction of the engagement groove to be engaged with the positioning recess. When an insufficient amount of engagement prevents engagement in the correct position, the engagement portion contacts with the flexible member and prevents the shaft body from engaging with the shaft joint. When canceling the coupling for maintenance, etc., the engagement of the flexible member with the positioning recess is cancelled by deflecting the flexible member in a width direction of the engagement groove. Consequently, the shaft body can be easily pulled out in a longitudinal direction of the engagement groove.

  • Patent number: 6024644
Abstract: A flexible coupling of the type having hubs secured to aligned shafts and connected to one another through the use of a flexible belt surrounding the hubs is improved by forming axial and circumferential grooves on the exterior surface of the belt, each circumferential groove lying transverse to and opening into an axial groove. A cooperating metal retainer ring has respective pins formed on its interior surface for insertion into the axial grooves. After a test for gross misalignment has been satisfied, the respective pins are rotated into the circumferential grooves, thereby fixing the retainer ring in position with respect to the flexible belt and coupling.

A cooperating metal retainer band has respective pins formed on its interior surface for insertion into the axial grooves and rotation into the circumferential grooves, thereby fixing the retainer band in position with respect to the flexible belt and coupling. Retention of the retainer band pin within the circumferential groove is insured by displacing the center line of the axial groove from a plane perpendicularly bisecting an underlying projection of the flexible belt and by lengthening the circumferential groove.

  • Patent number: 5501542
Abstract: A rapid coupling for a supported, driven shaft is disclosed. The coupling includes a coupling sleeve which is axially slidable over a drive shaft but keyed to the drive shaft to ensure that the coupling sleeve rotates with the shaft. The coupling sleeve has a driven end which includes slots for engaging driven pins affixed to a driven shaft. The coupling sleeve slides over and supports the driven shaft in a coupled position. The coupling sleeve is held in the coupled position by a quick release pin received in a bore through the drive shaft. The advantage is a simple coupling that is easily manufactured, the coupling being serviceable in a very restricted space where the driven shaft must be uncoupled without axial movement of either shaft.
