Having Driver Engagement Feature, E.g., Wing Nut, Etc. Patents (Class 470/23)
  • Publication number: 20110218046
Abstract: A manufacturing method of wing nuts has a round metal wire cut into segments used as billets. The method includes a basic formation directly forging the billet to become a primary body consisting of an intermediate head and two curved wings connected with two ends of the intermediate head respectively, a wing trigging employed for forging the wings of the intermediate head to become butterfly wings with a curved edge and an edge formation effected by forging the intermediate head to form a positioning groove in the center of the top and the bottom side respectively. Then the semi-finished product is finished by drilling and threading. By this method, manufacturing processes can be shortened to obtain a rapid producing rate and lessen waste volume, lowering cost and advancing competition.

  • Patent number: 6893354
Abstract: A method for manufacturing cold-forged wing nuts is to have a column linear material rolled and compressed into lots of column material units connected continuously and then receiving the steps of shearing, flattening, compressing and trimming, punching, wing forming and threading, able to produce wing nuts with quickness and with less waste material, and also having standardized specifications and high strength as well as property of corrosion resistance. Besides, one more step of forming insert grooves is added between the step of flattening and the step of compressing and trimming, so that the column with wings material unit can be formed with insert grooves, and after finishing the steps of punching, wing forming and threading, a nylon or metallic sheet is inserted in the insert groove and fixedly riveted to produce a wing nut able to prevent loosening under a low or high temperature.

  • Patent number: 6796907
Abstract: A one-piece flag nut having a flag portion protruding perpendicularly to the axis of a nut portion thereof such that during installation, as the flag nut rotates, the flag portion catches on any nearby structure and acts as a wrench during the installation process. The one-piece flag nut is formed by an extrusion process, and preferably formed to have ribs provided on the flag portion thereof which provide strength to the flag nut. The outer edges of the flag portion are preferably rolled to prevent the flag portion from being hung up on the structure during the installation process, thus preventing the flag nut from being properly seated.
