Patent number: 8491399Abstract: Provided is a method for manufacturing an FRP member with insert which enables to reduce a machining time to improve productivity. First, a threaded hole 11 is formed in an insert 3. An FRP member 2 where at least the threaded hole 11 of the insert 3 is covered with a coating 4 made of FRP is molded. A counter-bored hole 31 that penetrates the coating 4 of the FRP member 2 to communicate with the threaded hole 11 of the insert 3 is formed, to thereby obtain an FRP component 1 with insert. Accordingly, a machining step after molding the FRP member 2 in which dry machining is required includes only the boring step of forming the counter-bored hole 31 in the FRP member 2. Patent number: 5993320Abstract: A Tee nut and method of manufacture is provided which Tee nut includes a flange and a hollow barrel extending from the flange. The flange is general circular and has a pair of pawls extending upwardly therefrom, each of which terminates in teeth for engaging a base member. The barrel has an end portion proximal to the flange and a distal end portion. The proximal end portion has internal female threads and the distal end portion has a smooth unthreaded inner surface. The wall thickness of the distal end portion is thinner than the wall thickness of the proximal end portion, and the outer wall diameter is essentially constant for the length of the barrel. The barrel is formed first as an elongate member extending from a strip of material initially having a constant inner diameter and an outer diameter of the proximal portion greater than the outer diameter of the distal portion, with the distal portion having a wall thickness thinner than the wall thickness of the proximal portion.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1998Date of Patent: November 30, 1999Assignee: Stafast Products Inc.Inventor: Stephen R. Patent number: 5733199Abstract: A device for threading a nut blank includes an elongated guide member. Formed through the guide member is a bore. A recess is formed in the bottom end of the elongated guide member and is sized to receive a nut blank therein. A guide member holder, which includes a vertical wall and a pair of opposing horizontal walls, maintains the nut blank in the recess in the elongated member. A tap with a top end and a bottom end is adapted to be threaded through the guide member holder, through the guide member and into the nut blank. Removably secured to the top end of the tap is a tap handle for facilitating the threading of the tap into the nut blank.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1996Date of Patent: March 31, 1998Inventor: Albert Capri

Patent number: 5733198Abstract: Axial loads encountered during thread cutting are reduced by controlling interactions between rotation speed, axial feeding speed, feeding (threading) pitch, and feeding position. A counterload is generated by changing a feeding pitch to a corrected feeding pitch, which changes the rotation speed, while keeping the feeding speed constant; by changing the feeding speed, while compensating the rotation speed (which is derived from the feeding speed) to remain constant; by changing the rotation speed, while compensating the rotation speed deviation feedback (to allow the deviation correction to follow the rotation speed change), while keeping the feeding speed constant; by generating a function according to empirical results that controls the feeding pitch, and therefore the rotation speed, while keeping the feeding speed constant; and by combinations of these methods.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1995Date of Patent: March 31, 1998Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Katsunori Tsutsui, Masayuki Iwai

Patent number: 5454675Abstract: A sealing nut has an annular heat stabilized nylon sealing insert retained within a recess in a metallic nut body by a coined collar on the nut body. The sealing insert is initially formed symmetrical about a transverse median plane to enable bidirectional assembly into the nut body recess, and undergoes dynamic preloading when the collar is coined onto the periphery of the insert. When installed onto a threaded shaft extending from a bearing surface so that the coined collar is torqued against the bearing surface, the sealing insert forms a fluid-tight seal between the threaded shaft and a threaded bore in the bearing surface through which the threaded shaft extends. The nut body and sealing insert facilitate reduced manufacturing costs while enabling re-use without significant loss in sealing properties.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1994Date of Patent: October 3, 1995Assignee: Abbott-Interfast CorporationInventor: Lon DeHaitre

Patent number: 5316520Abstract: A process and apparatus for forming threads of varying pitch on a work piece, by first producing a partial thread and groove whose pitch does not vary in accordance with a pattern of pitch variation desired for the final product, and then reshaping the partial thread and groove to a final form whose pitch does vary in accordance with the desired pattern. The two steps may be performed by a single tool having a series of thread cutting projections which form the partial thread, and having one or two additional projections which then reshape the partial thread to its final form.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1992Date of Patent: May 31, 1994Inventor: William P. Patent number: 5282698Abstract: A threaded fastener and method of fabrication thereof wherein the fastener or nut includes a first portion having external, wrench-engaging surfaces and a central, through bore, internally threaded for at least a portion of its length from a base surface. A wall portion extends integrally from the end of the first portion opposite the base surface, concentrically surrounding and spaced radially outwardly from the end of the bore. The first and wall portions are formed as a metal casting with the wall portion in two segments separated by longitudinally extending, V-shaped notches. The free edges of the wall segments, which initially lie in a plane normal to the axis of the bore, are deformed by a die, moving radially inward so that the wall segments are in a domed configuration with the free edges defining a substantially oval opening having a major axis with a length about equal to the diameter of the bore and a minor axis about 4/5 that of the major axis.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1992Date of Patent: February 1, 1994Assignee: The Eastern CompanyInventors: Raymond L. Patent number: 5199927Abstract: A machine and method for continuous thread tapping of threads in fasteners such as nut blanks or the like having a fastener blank advancement mechanism incorporated into a fastener blank holding and guidance assembly. A continuous stream of fastener blanks are fed into and securely held and advanced onto a tap by a modular worm jaw assembly. Fastener blanks are continuously fed into the worm jaw assembly so that a continuous progression of blanks are advanced onto the tap by forward turning of worms rotating within laterally opposed jaws which hold the fastener blanks and prevent them from rotating as they are advanced over the rotating tap. Once the nut blank is advanced over the tap, it is pushed by a progression of successive nuts along the length of the shank which supports the tap to the end of the shank opposite the tap die from which the tapped nuts drop into a receptacle. The worm jaw assembly is of modular construction to facilitate easy removal and replacement.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1992Date of Patent: April 6, 1993Inventor: Shlomo Z. Rubin
