  • Patent number: 7387575
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing hollow bodies (11, 211, 411) such as nut elements to be fastened to components (13, 213, 413) that usually consist of sheet metal. The invention especially relates to a method for producing hollow bodies with an at least substantially square or rectangular outline by cutting individual bodies from a profile (10, 210, 410) in the form of a profile rod or a reel after respective holes (98, 298, 498) have been punched into the profile, and optionally afterwards producing a threaded cylinder (110, 310, 510). The inventive method is further characterized in that before or after the punching of the profile a passage treatment is carried our in order to produce a cylindrical or annular projection (36, 236, 436), concentric to the punching or the intended punching, on the side (12, 212, 412) of the profile facing the component by flow of material. The projection is optionally shaped to an annular punched section in an additional molding cycle.

  • Patent number: 7367893
Abstract: An assembly line for continuously manufacturing fasteners from a rod with a groove for receiving a wire for retaining the fasteners in a strip includes a receiver for receiving the rod. A die press is arranged to receive the rod from the receiver and includes a piercing member for piercing an aperture in each fastener and a cutting member for cutting each fastener from the rod. A tapping member provides ribs to an inner wall of the aperture formed in the fastener by the piercing member. An inspector inspects the internal rib formed into the inner wall of the aperture disposed in the fastener verifying exactness of the aperture and the rib. A wire inserter inserts the wire into the groove forming a strip of connected fasteners. The inserter receives the fasteners sequentially from the inspector after verification of the exactness of the aperture disposed in each fastener.

  • Patent number: 6893354
Abstract: A method for manufacturing cold-forged wing nuts is to have a column linear material rolled and compressed into lots of column material units connected continuously and then receiving the steps of shearing, flattening, compressing and trimming, punching, wing forming and threading, able to produce wing nuts with quickness and with less waste material, and also having standardized specifications and high strength as well as property of corrosion resistance. Besides, one more step of forming insert grooves is added between the step of flattening and the step of compressing and trimming, so that the column with wings material unit can be formed with insert grooves, and after finishing the steps of punching, wing forming and threading, a nylon or metallic sheet is inserted in the insert groove and fixedly riveted to produce a wing nut able to prevent loosening under a low or high temperature.

  • Patent number: 6591657
Abstract: An intermediate molding (41) is formed so that a cylindrical arm-to-be portion (42) projects from the cylindrical outer surface of a body portion (13) of the arm-to-be portion (42). The arm-to-be portion (42) has a given thickness and a hole (42a) with a diameter greater than the inner diameter of a projecting connector portion (20) of an arm portion (15). A pair of flat face portions (42b) extending parallel to the axis of the body portion (13) are formed on the cylindrical outer surface of the arm-to-be portion (42). A tap (44) that has an external thread (43) formed along its cylindrical outer surface is inserted into the hole (42a) of the arm-to-be portion (42). Concave faces (49),(49) are concaves respectively formed on the opposing surfaces of an upper die (47) and a lower die (48) so as to have a shape like a half cylinder with a curvature corresponding to that of the cylindrical outer surface of the projecting connector portion (20).

  • Publication number: 20030087705
Abstract: A forging method which enables formation of a hollow part by simple processes. In a cutting process, a cylinder blank 1 is cut at the upsetting ratio of L/D=1.5-2.0. In a first process, the cylinder blank 1 is upset in accordance with the outer shape of a nut. The height h of a semi-manufactured product 2 should be lower than the height h of a final product 4. In a second process, dents 3a and 3b are formed on both sides by extrusion. The depth of the dents 3a should be deeper than the other. The height of the semi-manufactured product 3 in the second process should be as tall as the height of the final product 4. In a third process, piercing is performed to the bottom portion of the deeper dent 3a so that both dents 3a and 3b can communicate.

  • Patent number: 5993320
Abstract: A Tee nut and method of manufacture is provided which Tee nut includes a flange and a hollow barrel extending from the flange. The flange is general circular and has a pair of pawls extending upwardly therefrom, each of which terminates in teeth for engaging a base member. The barrel has an end portion proximal to the flange and a distal end portion. The proximal end portion has internal female threads and the distal end portion has a smooth unthreaded inner surface. The wall thickness of the distal end portion is thinner than the wall thickness of the proximal end portion, and the outer wall diameter is essentially constant for the length of the barrel. The barrel is formed first as an elongate member extending from a strip of material initially having a constant inner diameter and an outer diameter of the proximal portion greater than the outer diameter of the distal portion, with the distal portion having a wall thickness thinner than the wall thickness of the proximal portion.

  • Patent number: 5282698
Abstract: A threaded fastener and method of fabrication thereof wherein the fastener or nut includes a first portion having external, wrench-engaging surfaces and a central, through bore, internally threaded for at least a portion of its length from a base surface. A wall portion extends integrally from the end of the first portion opposite the base surface, concentrically surrounding and spaced radially outwardly from the end of the bore. The first and wall portions are formed as a metal casting with the wall portion in two segments separated by longitudinally extending, V-shaped notches. The free edges of the wall segments, which initially lie in a plane normal to the axis of the bore, are deformed by a die, moving radially inward so that the wall segments are in a domed configuration with the free edges defining a substantially oval opening having a major axis with a length about equal to the diameter of the bore and a minor axis about 4/5 that of the major axis.

  • Patent number: 5146668
Abstract: An attaching sleeve for a floating nut assembly is formed from rod or wire stock by successive cold heading or cold forming operations. The steps involve cutting off a longitudinal segment from the stock, forming a flange on the front end of the segment, forming a centrally disposed opening through the segment, and forming longitudinally extending ridges projecting outwardly around the periphery of the segment. The attaching sleeves made by the method of the present invention have accurately positioned ridges or knurls which will consistently mate with a similarly configured opening in panels to which the floating nut assembly is to be secured.
