Patent number: 11846352Abstract: A leaking oil dipstick adapter is repaired by removing a flanged nut from a threaded extension of the dipstick adapter. A gasket and preferably also gasket seal forming material are applied surrounding the threaded extension of the dipstick adapter and adjacent to an exterior side of the wall of the oil pan. A washer is applied adjacent to this gasket. A nut is threaded onto the threaded extension of the dipstick adapter and applies a compression force on the washer, compressing the gasket against the exterior surface of the wall of the oil pan. A tool is preferably used to retain the dipstick adapter and keep it from falling into an interior of the oil pan during the repair.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2022Date of Patent: December 19, 2023Inventor: Mitchell S. Patent number: 5852859Abstract: A method and apparatus for making non-circular piston rings which will precisely sealably conform to the cylinder wall of an internal combustion engine. In accordance with the method of the invention a metal strip of special cross-sectional configuration is coiled about a specially configured mandrel which is non-circular in cross section. Preferably the coiling mandrel is provided with a circumferentially interrupted thread form that has a zero helix angle along most of its circumference. During the coiling operation, using this type of mandrel, the metal strip is preformed at specific locations along its length into an angled configuration to form a coil body having a plurality of coils that have a zero helix angle along most of their circumference and a relatively steep helix angle for a short distance. After the coil is formed, the helix angle portions are cut therefrom to provide a plurality of generally planer, interrupted rings.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1998Date of Patent: December 29, 1998Inventor: E. Patent number: 5809820Abstract: A spring washer improves resistance to loosening of fasteners tightened thereon. The spring washer is stronger than prior art devices. On the upper and lower surfaces of the spring washer, approximately 1/5-1/4 of the width inward from the outer perimeter is formed without V-shaped grooves. The remaining flat portions are formed with V-shaped grooves in various patterns. These V-shaped grooves increase the coefficient of friction and resist loosening of the spring washer.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1997Date of Patent: September 22, 1998Assignee: Nissan Screw Co., Ltd.Inventor: Toshiaki Morimoto

Patent number: 5659876Abstract: A method for producing a washer having a boss comprises the following steps in the sequence set forth: (a) sprinkling powder of a bearing alloy onto a backing metal made of an iron-based alloy to form a composite material; (b) sintering the composite material to obtain a bimetal material so as to accomplish a primary sintering; (c) fabricating the bimetal material into a shape of the washer having the boss; and (d) simultaneously accomplishing a secondary sintering and carburizing of the washer having the boss. By virtue of simultaneously conducting the secondary sintering and the carburizing for the washer, the number of steps in producing method (particularly, during a heat treatment) is reduced thereby improving the productivity of the washer having the boss while reducing thermal energy required for the heat treatment.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1995Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Assignee: Jatco CorporationInventor: Muneo Mizuta
