Longitudinally Adjustable Handle Or Shaft Patents (Class 473/296)
  • Patent number: 7264556
Abstract: A collapsible golf club. A head is disposed on a shaft and a coupling replaceably couples an end of the handle to an end of the shaft. The coupling includes a threaded portion extending from the end of the shaft, a stub shaft extending from the threaded portion, a pair of pins extending radially outwardly from the stub shaft, a tube extending from the end of the handle and having a pair of slots and a shoulder, and a sleeve having an internal threaded portion and terminating in a lip. The tube is rotatably captured in the sleeve, up against the internal threaded portion, and is maintained therein by the lip providing a stop for the shoulder, thereby rotatably attaching the sleeve to the tube.

Abstract: A game table for playing variations of table tennis using at least one ball includes a table top having a playing surface and a plurality of generally identical, intersecting, equiangularly-spaced, rigid barriers positioned atop the playing surface and radiating from a center point thereof, the rigid barriers dividing the playing surface into at least three and no more than four independent playing stations, all of which are of identical size and shape. The table top of one embodiment is made of four interfolding pieces which are supported by four folding leg assemblies and a storage/transport dolly. That of another is made of three or four separate pieces, which are shaped to fit together, in regions beneath the barriers, like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. That of another is divided into hingeably intercoupled halves which can be folded together for storage, with each half corresponding to two playing stations.

  • Patent number: 7195565
Abstract: An improved golf club fitting system for fitting a set of golf clubs to a player includes the steps of measuring a player's hand grip strength and selecting a representative golf club having a dead weight directly proportional to the player's grip strength. The club length and the swing weight of the representative golf club are then determined by standard testing procedures commonly used in the golf club industry. A balance index (BI) for the representative golf club is then computed by dividing the dead weight (DW) by the swing weight (SW) (DW/SW=BI) and the balance index (BI) is compared to the dead weight to determine generally corresponding values for the remaining other golf clubs in the set such that the system user can match different irons and woods to the representative golf club thereby creating an ideal matched set of golf clubs for the player.

  • Patent number: 7172513
Abstract: A tool has an adjustable lie angle, face angle, weight, and shaft length and is used by a golfer to adjust a putter to the optimal lie angle, face angle, weight and shaft length for that golfer. The tool head has a face plate and a sole disposed normal to one another. An angle member has a vertical wall disposed parallel to the face plate and a horizontal wall that overlies the sole. A hosel is pivotally mounted to the vertical wall and a first protractor is fixedly secured to the vertical wall. A marker on the hosel indicates the lie angle on the first protractor. A second protractor secured to the sole indicates a face angle when the shaft of the club is rotated about its axis. Weights are selectively added to the toe, heel, or mid-point of the putter head to determine an optimal weight and weight distribution.

  • Patent number: 7150685
Abstract: An improved golf club includes an improved grip. The grip may be improved over known grips by including an offset upper portion and/or a sliding grip portion, and/or by providing a shaft with greater flex in an upper shaft portion than in a lower shaft portion. The sliding grip portion is about four inch long and may slide over a standard grip, or over a guide, and is preferably used with putters, but may be used with other golf clubs. The offset upper portion comprises an eleven inch upper grip offset at about nine degrees from the shaft centerline and clocked about 110 degrees counter-clockwise from that face of the head. The lower portion of the grip is retained as in known clubs.

Abstract: A telescopic putter mounted to a headband is a novelty game that mimics the game of golf. It is played indoors with a lightweight plastic ball and a cup resting on the floor. The game follows the general rules of putt-putt golf, except for the rule that the player must not touch the club with their hands when swinging. Instead the club is attached to the player's head with the use of a headband. Thus, the player must bend over the ball, place their hands on their knees and swing the club by turning their head from side to side. The club has an adjustable length shaft that telescopes in and out to accommodate players of varying heights.

The shaft can also be moved to a retracted position. The adjustment means are unobtrusive and provided between the shaft and the blade thereby not affecting the performance of the club. Thus a similar hitting potential and variation in club performance can be achieved by the single golf club as is achieved by a conventional full set of golf irons and provides an inexpensive option for players and the ability to transport the golf club as the golf club is lighter and less bulky than a full set of golf irons.

Abstract: A length adjustment mechanism useful on sports and other working implements allows the length of an implement to be easily adjusted. In the case of golf clubs, the length adjustment mechanism includes a handle with a set of interior threads that engage a set of exterior threads formed on an upper end of the golf club shaft. The handle can be screwed down over the threads on the upper end of the shaft to adjust the length of the club. The handle is then fixed with respect to the shaft, and a grip is formed over the handle. The handle can be selectively repositioned along the shaft to alter the length of the club by freeing the handle, screwing it to a new position, and re-fixing the handle in the new position.

  • Patent number: 6413168
Abstract: An adjustable length shaft assembly including a handle portion and an extensible shaft. An upper end of the shaft includes a set of locking teeth. The handle has an internal locking mechanism with a tooth rack to accommodate the locking teeth. A control handle is rotated in a first direction, rotating the teeth away from the tooth rack, where the teeth are in a disengaged, unlocked position. With the teeth unlocked, the shaft can be longitudinally adjusted to achieve the desired length. Then, the control handle is rotated in a second direction, rotating the teeth into the tooth rack, where the teeth are in an engaged, locked position. In this manner, the teeth and the tooth rack provide a plurality of positive locking positions, each position providing a different shaft length.

Abstract: A briefcase system has a first portion and a second portion with a hinge pivotally coupling the first and second portions. Each portion has walls in a rectilinear configuration forming a large chamber in the first portion and a small chamber in the second portion. A large block of resilient foam substantially fills the first portion and a small block of foam substantially fills the second portion. A plurality of discrete recesses are formed in the large block and in the small block. Each of the recesses extend inwardly from the open faces and are configured to receive a plurality of preselected golf related components. A plurality of preselected golf related components and accessories are located within the recesses of the blocks. Also disclosed is a variable weight/variable swing weight golf club and the method of fabrication.

  • Patent number: 6343997
Abstract: A golf club handle apparatus is used with a golf club having a longitudinally extending hand grip and includes an elongated shaft, a handle structure, a forearm support member and a connector. The shaft extends along a longitudinal axis and has a first portion, a second portion and an intermediate portion disposed between the first and second portions. The handle structure includes a pair of handles connected to the intermediate portion and spaced apart from one another in a generally parallel relationship with the shaft positioned between the pair of handles. Each one of the pair of handles extends along a respective handle axis that is oriented generally perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis. The forearm support member is connected to the first portion and has a forearm support surface spaced apart and facing away from the shaft. The connector is disposed at the second portion and is operative to connect the hand grip of the golf club and the golf club handle apparatus together.
