Abstract: The present invention provides a hollow golf ball having a spherical cavity in the center, which exhibits excellent durability and less impact strength to result in excellent shot feel without degrading flight performance, and the production of the same. The hollow golf ball includes: (a) hollow center formed from a material selected from the group consisting of rubber, thermoplastic resin and a mixture thereof, the hollow center having a hollow portion with a diameter of 5 to 30 mm; (b) at least one core rubber layer, formed on said hollow center, the core rubber layer being obtained by vulcanizing a rubber composition which comprises a base rubber, a metal salt of an unsaturated carboxylic acid, an organic peroxide and filler; and (c) a cover formed on said core rubber layer.
Abstract: A golf ball having a reduced spin rate is provided for minimizing the tendency of the golf ball to hook or slice in response to a sliding blow from a golf club. The golf ball may have a cover that is constructed to have a slippery surface such that when the club strikes the ball the club slides on the surface rather than imparting spin to the ball. In addition, the cover may be isolated from the inner core of the golf ball by an intervening lubricating layer which allows the cover to slip on the core so that any spin imparted to the cover is only minimally transferred to the core thereby minimizing spin of the golf ball. The golf ball may also be constructed with a fluid core either of a liquid or gelatinous substance which will not respond to any initial spin imparted to the outer cover of the golf ball and will thereby retard the spin rate of the ball.
Abstract: A finished, regulation long range, solid construction, multi-piece golf ball including a discrete cover and a core. The core has an inner and an outer portion. Either the outer portion or the entire core has a plurality of gas containing compressible cells dispersed therein, and either the outer portion or the entire core the a specific gravity greater than 1.The compressible cells are produce by a method selected from the group consisting of foaming, using a blowing agent, injecting a gas and incorporating a plurality of microspheres having a flexible outer surface.
Abstract: The present invention refers to a golf ball having projections in a form of dome, in a form of cut sphere, in a form of polyhedron, in a form of spherical polyhedron, in a form of which the base is in polygon and the sides are round and plane like the side of cut cone, in a form of which the base is in circle and the sides are round and plane like the side of cut cone or with a small dome put on each of cut top. The surface of the said inner cover can be made of projections of one kind on the whole or projections of a different kind. Meanwhile, it is possible to make the projections of one kind or more than two kinds that are different in a size or height. The said projections also may be apart from each other at regular intervals or may be in contact with each other, and in some cases, some projections may be in contact and some projections apart from each other.
Abstract: A thread-wound golf ball prepared by winding thread rubber around a center, and having a two layer cover. The inner cover is made of an ionomer resin mixture or blend of ionomers having an acid content of not greater than 15 percent by weight, and a melt flow rate measured at 190.degree. C. of from 2 to 9. The outer cover is made of a resin having a hardness of 43 to 53 on the Shore D scale.
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards a multi-layer golf ball which comprises a core with one or more layers; at least one cover layer; and one or more mantle layers disposed between the core and cover layer, wherein the mantle layer comprises thermoplastic polyetherester, thermoplastic polyesterester dynamically vulcanized thermoplastic elastomer, functionalized styrene-butadiene elastomer, thermoplastic polyurethane, metallocene polymer or blends thereof and thermoset materials. Further, the present invention is directed to a ball having a core, a coverlayer and a mantle layer therebetween wherein the mantle layer has a flex modulus of less than 10,000 psi and the cover has a flex modulus greater than 80,000 psi.

Abstract: The subject invention relates to a golf ball having the beneficial characteristics of both a wound and solid construction ball. The invention is directed to a non-wound golf ball incorporating a compressible material, such as a gas, as part of its core. The compressible material can be dispersed throughout the entire core or only in a part of the core. The compressible material or gas can be incorporated into the core by including or dispersing microspheres having a flexible shell containing the compressible material or gas. The golf balls of this invention combine the feel and playing characteristics of a wound construction ball with the shelf-life, manufacturing simplicity and durability of solid construction golf balls.
