A front panel portion manufactures a single piece or as multiple pieces fits over the rear cover panel with a lip engaging onto the peripheral wall to which it is connected by latches. A stiffener member extends across the rear wall and closes the slots. A similar stiffener member can be attached across the front panel portion. Both the rear panel and the front panel are manufactured from glass fibre reinforced resin allowing the product to be manufactured in lightweight. The front cover panel can therefore be readily removed to allow replacement of the belt.

Abstract: A chain cover including a plurality of first cover blocks and a plurality of second cover blocks. Each of the blocks has a pair of side walls each having a projecting portion at an inner side thereof. The projecting portions have configurations which conform with lateral faces of outer link plates of a chain so as to receive the outer link plates. Each of the first and second cover blocks further has a bridge connecting the side walls, and the side walls are formed with a convex front edge portion and a concave rear edge portion. The concave rear edge portion of the second cover blocks are rotatably slidable on the convex front edge portion of an adjacent one of the first cover blocks. The convex front edge portions and the concave rear edge portions lie along portions of the a cylindrical surface having a central axis including the corresponding pins of the chain.

Abstract: A trenching machine includes a vehicle, an engine transmission assembly, a transfer box assembly, an elevated differential gearbox, a trenching chain drive shaft, a pair of roller chains engaging the trenching chain drive shaft and the output shaft of the differential gearbox, a trenching chain assembly mounted on and driven by the trenching chain drive shaft; and a discharge conveyor positioned below the differential gearbox and the pair of roller chains. The transfer box assembly, which transfers power from the engine transmission assembly vertically to the elevated differential gearbox, includes a sealed but accessible housing, a lower shaft, an upper shaft positioned parallel to and vertically above the lower shaft, and a roller chain running on sprockets on the upper and lower shafts. The lower shaft is connected to the engine transmission output shaft by a first universal joint, while the upper shaft is connected to the input of the differential gearbox by a second universal joint.

Abstract: A chainguard is disclosed for fully enclosing a bicycle chain on a bicycle having a front sprocket and a rear sprocket. The chainguard includes inside and outside covers extending from the front sprocket to the rear sprocket. The inside cover is formed as a hinged structure having top and bottom halves which may be pivoted together once the inside cover is in position extending around the bicycle crank and the rear axle. After the inside cover is in position, the outside cover may be moved into engagement with the inside cover whereby the top and bottom halves of the inside cover are secured together and the bicycle chain is fully enclosed.

  • Patent number: 5267537
Abstract: In a machine, such as an internal combustion engine, in which a chain is used to transmit rotating power from one shaft to another, the chain is situated in an oil-tight chain compartment which is separated from other lubricant containing spaces so that lubricating oil in the other spaces cannot flow directly into the lubricating oil in the chain compartment. Contamination of the chain lubricant is avoided, and the useful life of the chain is increased. In a first embodiment, a separate quantity of oil is situated in the chain compartment. In a second embodiment, the chain lubricating oil is recirculated in the chain compartment by a dedicated pump. In a third embodiment, filtered engine oil is delivered to the chain compartment through a passage in a shaft, and through a port in a chain sprocket on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5018564
Abstract: A fabric is cut, sewn, and furnished with Velcro or other hook and loop fastener portions to become a cover to be removably positioned about a drive mechanism of a bicycle to protect this drive mechanism from the accumulation of dirt. A back elevational side of this fabric cover has spaced circular cuts with access cuts to these spaced circular cuts, thereby forming an access flap. These cuts accommodate the fitting of this back elevational side about both the rear axle and the pedal axle, and alongside the drive chain and the sprocket of a bicycle. After the fitting of this back elevational side about a rear axle and a pedal axle, Velcro fastener portions are used to keep the access cuts closed together when this cover is in use. A front side, which is continuous throughout, is thereafter secured to the back elevational side, where not previously initially sewn together to make this cover, by using components of Velcro fasteners.

The driving and driven shafts extend through the elongated openings. A mounting track is attached to the rear of the backplate. A mounting nut is captured within the mounting track such that the nut can slide over the length of the track. A bolt fastens to the mounting nut to attack the backplate to the assemblage of the driving and driven shafts. In a preferred form, mounting strips having a slot are attached to the assemblage of the driving and driven shafts. The slots are preferably arranged in a direction that intersects the mounting track, and the bolt can be located along the slot. A cover can be releasably mounted against the backplate to form an enclosure. Closure strips are inserted into the portions of the elongated openings to further enclose the flexible drive.
