    Abstract: The present invention relates generally to rope drives working with high-strength fiber ropes such as crane hoists, boom adjustment gear, trolley traveling gear, etc. The invention in this respect in particular applies to hoist drums for the rope hoist winch of such a fiber rope drive having a drum jacket body which is provided with grooving at the peripheral side and having two guard plates adjacent to the drum jacket body at the end sides. The invention further relates to a rope pulley for such a fiber rope drive having a rotatably supported pulley body whose jacket surface has at least one rope groove. In accordance with the invention, the rope grooves have a flat-pressed, round groove contour which differs from the circular and which has a larger radius of curvature in the region of the groove base than in the region of the groove flanks adjacent thereto.

    Abstract: A cushion ring is provided between a transmission shaft and a transmission wheel's sleeve. The cushion ring has a number of centripetal teeth, thereby forming a number of chambers around the cushion ring. Inside each chamber, there is a slope section slanting towards an adjacent first tooth, and there is a spring element pressing a ball (or cylinder) against the slope section and the first tooth. The diameter of the ball or cylinder is such that it stands on the slope section to be slightly beyond the teeth and contacts an outside surface of the transmission shaft. As such, when the engine is ignited and a jitter causes the transmission shaft to turn in a reversed direction, the balls and cylinders are rolled towards the spring elements and the rotational force is thereby absorbed by the spring elements.

    Abstract: A method of making a poly-V ribbed pulley engaged with a V-ribbed belt or V-ribbed belts. The method includes the steps of pressing two flanges or one circular projection between the two flanges in the cylinder, pressing a flange at the radially outer end of a thick circular plate, connecting one flange of the cylinder to the flange of the thick circular plate by welding, and performing rolling to form V-shaped grooves at the outside surface of the cylinder.

    Abstract: A main rope is wound round a sheave and a deflector wheel by three turns, and the sectional shape of those rope grooves of the sheave with which the main rope is held in engagement is formed in the shape of circular arcs, whereby the lifetimes of the main rope and the sheave are lengthened, and an enhanced traction ability is attained. Among the grooves of the driving sheave around which the main rope is wound, those except the grooves around which the main rope is wound first and last are shaped so as to afford greater friction at contact therebetween than the frictional contact of the first and last grooves, or the grooves around which the main rope is wound first and last are rendered higher in hardness than the other grooves, whereby the amounts of wear of the respective grooves are equalized to extend the lifetimes of the rope and the sheave and to prevent the pleasant ride of an elevator from worsening.

    Abstract: The multiple sheave mechanism is primarily intended for use on the outer end of a long boom of a crane. The mechanism includes a plurality of sheaves that have hubs supported for rotation on a shaft by anti-friction bearings. Each of the hubs have a cylindrical inner flange on one side and a cylindrical outer flange on the other side, and the hubs are axially spaced from each other with the outer flanges overlapping the inner flanges. The outer flange on one end sheave overlaps an annular retainer, and a second retainer overlaps the inner flange on the other end sheave. The cooperating flanges and retainers define circuitous passages which are filled with lubricant for providing a mechanical seal and a fluid seal which minimizes entry of dirt, dust and other debris into the bearings and maximizes the interval between required relubrication.

    Abstract: A pulley has a planar end wall and an annular wall extending axially outwardly therefrom. The annular wall is formed with belt receiving grooves and the end wall is formed with a central opening for mounting the pulley on a hub or shaft. A stamped sheet metal washer having a generally annular configuration is formed with a central hole and an integral projection extending radially outwardly from the outer edge of the washer. The washer is firmly attached to the end wall of the pulley preferably by welding or by bonding with an acrylic structural adhesive with the central hole of the washer being concentric to the central opening of the end wall. The projection is positioned to counterbalance any unbalance in the annular wall that may have developed therein during forming of the pulley.

The pulley is formed by a hollow cylindrical-shaped molded plastic member having a series of outwardly opening V-shaped belt-receiving grooves on the outer surface thereof. A flat disc-shaped metal member is mounted within the central bore of the plastic member perpendicular to the longitudinal axis thereof. The outer edge of the metal disc is scalloped and is embedded firmly within the plastic to prevent rotation of the disc with respect to the plastic member. A central opening is formed in the disc for mounting the pulley on the extended end of the alternator shaft.
