Abstract: A toothed, positive drive, power transmission belt of the type having an endless substantially inextensible tensile member to which are secured belt teeth having a curvilinear cross-section and covered by an outer non-stretch fabric cover. In the body of each tooth is a layer of fabric reinforcement separated from the outer cover fabric of the belt tooth and of the land region between belt teeth by a cushion layer of elastomeric material of varying thickness so that the outer tooth portions are free to flex while the inner portion of the tooth is reinforced against shear. The inner layer has a large mesh size, is highly stretchable, has a fine warp of 30 to 210 d, has a normal weft, and the sum of the cover factors of the warp and weft are no more than 20. The inner layer may have either a flat or a wavy shape within the teeth. The outer layer has a low stretchability and a normal warp and weft. The inner layer, which is bonded strongly to the rubber substrate of the belt due to its large mesh size, easily follows the deformations of the teeth. The tape is enclosed in a guide and a drive sprocket has teeth engaging the apertures to apply both tension and compression forces to open and close a door. • Patent number: 4403979
Abstract: A pulley configuration which increases the contact area between the pulley tooth tips and the land area of the belt teeth. The increased contact area reduces land area wear between belt teeth. The pulley tooth tip has a longitudinal cross-sectional contour partially composed of two substantially circular arcs connected by a line segment which is substantially straight or slightly curved. The length of the line segment is from 5 percent to 100 percent of the width of the belt tooth on which the pulley is used, and preferably between 6 percent and 33 percent of the width of the belt tooth. The pulley in combination with a toothed belt forms a positive power transmission system.

  • Patent number: 4392842
Abstract: A toothed positive drive power transmission belt of the type having an endless substantially inextensible tensile member to which the belt teeth are secured, which teeth have a curvilinear cross-section and may be covered by an outer protective fabric or the like. In the body of each tooth is a layer of fabric reinforcement separated from the outer surface of the belt teeth by a cushion layer of soft elastomeric material so that the outer surface is free to flex while the inner portion of the tooth is reinforced against shearing.

  • Patent number: 4371363
Abstract: An endless flexible, elastomeric or plastic power transmission belt has a series of outwardly projecting, longitudinally spaced teeth having bases integral with the belt body and an opposite free end for meshing with teeth of a pulley. The free end of each tooth is smaller in longitudinal dimension than the base and the surfaces facing adjacent teeth of the series are curved outwardly toward the adjacent teeth. The curvature is defined by the trigonometric tangent of the angles between a straight line tangent to the curvature and a straight line parallel to the base. The trigonometric tangent increases linearly from the free end of the tooth towards the base according to a constant coefficient that is a function of the mechanical characteristics of the material from which the belt is made and the dimensions of the tooth.

The pulley groove depth may be less than the height of the belt tooth and the groove has a longitudinal cross-sectional contour partially composed of two substantially circular arcs connected by a line segment which is substantially straight or slightly curved. The pulley in combination with a toothed belt forms a positive power transmission system.

  • Patent number: 4332576
Abstract: A single or multiple strand molded notch V-belt and a method for its production is described. The method is characterized by use of an open-ended mold having rigid transverse notches and longitudinal ribs forming a plurality of mold cavities. The belt has undulating mold-formed notches which in one embodiment carry a fabric facing of a particular design to retard initiation and propagation of undercord cracks during operation of the belt around associated sheaves.

  • Patent number: 4283184
Abstract: A toothed transmission chain or belt is described for use in coupling spaced sprockets or gears. The chain is formed of molded polyurethane or other plastic having sprocket engaging teeth molded onto a supporting unitary molded backing. The molded portion is reinforced by one or more metal cables which are embedded in the molded plastic portion. An improved engagement with the sprockets is provided for by providing lateral slots in the chain teeth thereby giving them variable width. Additionally, the chain may be furnished or originally formed in indeterminate lengths and then fashioned into an endless chain by exposing and splicing together the ends of the steel reinforcing cables.
