Abstract: In a transfer for use in a transaxle for a four-wheel drive vehicle, a transfer shaft for transmission of power to rear wheels is drivingly connected to a ring gear which is in turn directly connected with a pinion gear in such a manner that a center axis of the pinion gear intersects a center axis of the ring gear at right angles and in such a manner that the center axis of the pinion gear is offset upward from the center axis of the ring gear.
Abstract: A geared rotary actuator (1) including a compound input stage (3, 5) and a compound output stage (4, 6) with the input stage (3, 5) including a sun gear (24) with gear portions (24a, 24b) respectively meshing with a drive gear (23) and further gear (25). Input/output link members (28, 29) connect the input stage (3, 5) with planet gears (26, 27) of the output stage (4, 6) so as to provide uninterrupted controlled speed, torque and power delivery to an output (31, 32) and through shaft (S) of the geared rotary actuator (1) even upon an occurrence of a jam in the geared rotary actuator (1).
Abstract: A transfer case for a four wheel drive vehicle providing a drive range planetary gear set selectively positionable at a low speed output position, a high speed output position and a neutral position; having a dual planetary inter-axle differential gear set axially spaced from the range planetary gear set. The differential gear set is selectively positionable to provide a two-wheel drive mode to a first output and a full-time four-wheel drive mode with differential action between the first output and a second output. A viscous fluid clutch is selectively connected between the first and second outputs for modifying torque division therebetween whereby the viscous clutch is disconnected upon shifting into the two-wheel drive mode.
Abstract: A differential device having a central differential coaxially provided with an axle and a differential provided on the axle. The central differential has a differential case, a pair of pinion shafts, a pair of pinions rotatably mounted on the pinion shafts respectively, and first and second side gears engaged with the pinions. The pinion shafts are operatively connected to an output member of a transmission. The differential has a differential case operatively connected to the first side gear of the central differential, a pinion and a pair of side gears engaged with the pinion and secured to the axle, respectively. The second side gear of the central differential is operatively connected to the axle of the vehicle.
Abstract: An all-terrain vehicle having two bogies movably joined at their inner ends and pivotally mounted on each side of the vehicle and two main wheels mounted on the ends of one of the bogies and a third wheel mounted on the other end of the other bogie. The outer ends of the bogies extend beyond the vehicle body and have auxiliary wheels mounted on such outer ends on the opposite sides of the bogies from the main wheels. A gear drive is provided for driving each of the auxiliary wheels at the same peripheral speed as the main wheels. The vehicle can also have a limited travel differential for permitting limited relative rotational motion between wheels on opposite sides of the differential but supplying a positive drive thereto at the end of such limited travel. The vehicle can also have a torsion bar drive or a limited travel torsion bar drive between the various bogie-mounted wheels to thereby permit relative rotational movement therebetween while still providing positive drives thereto.
