Brake For Planetary Transmission Having Axis Of Planet Pinion At Angle To Axis Of Mating Gear (e.g., Bevel Gears) Patents (Class 475/306)
  • Patent number: 11859700
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a self-locking non-backdrivable gear system. The gear system may comprise a primary motor input and gear box. The primary motor input is for rotation of the gearbox about the axis of a drive shaft. The gearbox may comprise an input ring gear, one or more locking gears, fixed gear, and output gear. In operation, rotation of the primary motor input causes rotation of the ring gear which causes rotation of the locking gear which causes rotation of the output gear which causes rotation of the drive shaft. However, in the absence of rotation of the ring gear, a rotational force applied to the output gear causes the gear teeth on the fixed and output gears to lock the gear in place.

Abstract: The Internal Combustion Engine Efficiency Unit (“ICEEU”) is a device that improves the fuel efficiency of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, producing low-emission vehicles. It accomplishes this by replacing a single larger engine with two smaller engines, connected together via the ICEEU to produce a single rotary output that powers the vehicle. Both engines are used together when power is needed, but one engine can be shut down when the vehicle is cruising and needs less power to simply maintain its forward momentum. The ICEEU effectively removes the second engine completely from the power train when it is unneeded, so that it does not produce any drag, and also allows the second engine to reenter the power train as needed at any RPM or torque. The ICEEU comprises an open differential and two planetary gear sets to provide the phase shifting ratio that allows for a pair of internal combustion engines to be integrated and separated smoothly throughout operation.

  • Patent number: 6056662
Abstract: A high output transmission is made for increasing speed and torque from an engine or motor. It includes a planetary drive for gradually increasing speed output, a speed reducer for increasing torque output, and a friction brake which gradually slows and stops a wheel member of the planetary drive. The planetary drive wheel member is gradually slowed and stopped so that the planetary drive input to output speed ratio is increased starting from a 1 to 1 speed ratio. As the braking force is gradually increased power output is transmitted starting with a slow speed with high torque to a fast speed with lower torque and when the braking force is decreased power output resumes to a slow speed with high torque while the engine or motor can run at a set or constant speed. A clutch means is included in the transmission by the on/off action of the brake thereby providing a clutch and continuously variable transmission or CCVT.

  • Patent number: 5957803
Abstract: The invention comprises a simple and efficient transmission for varying speed and engagement of power, comprising a planetary drive with input means driven by a prime mover's output, scheduled friction clutch means for gradually slowing and stopping rotation of an idler wheel member of the planetary drive so that as the force of the clutch is increased, power is automatically transferred from the idler wheel member to the output of the planetary drive, starting with a slow speed with high torque to a fast speed with lower torque by scheduled increments which enable rotation of the output shaft, under load resistance, without prime mover stall.

Abstract: An infinitely variable rotary drive transmission system which provides a true infinitely variable speed range that begins with zero output and accelerates smoothly and steplessly into the over-drive range, provides limitless horsepower capacity and does not require a clutch mechanism to change speeds. The infinitely variable rotary drive transmission system comprises an input shaft, hub assembly, a plurality of identical differential gear assemblies and a plurality of cam rod assemblies operatively coupled to vary the rotational output velocity of an output shaft.

  • Patent number: 5564992
Abstract: A torque enhancer for use between a driving member and a driven member includes a housing and a gear set rotatably supported within the housing. The gear set has an input member, an output member, and a reaction member. Torque is transferred between the input member and the output member when rotation of the reaction member is resisted. A braking element is disposed within the housing and operably engages the reaction member to resist the rotation of the reaction member, thereby causing torque to be transferred between the input member and the output member. A controller means connected to the brake means modulates engagement of the reaction member by the brake means to maximize output member acceleration.

  • Patent number: 5505669
Abstract: This invention relates to a power transmission device for coupling an input or driving shaft with an output or driven shaft. The power transmission device permits the output shaft to be engaged or disengaged from the input shaft. The device comprises a first side gear mechanically connected to the output shaft and a second side gear mechanically coupled to a brake which can decrease the rate of rotation of the second side gear to zero. In one embodiment, the gear ratio between the first side gear and the second side gear is greater than one. The device further comprises carried gears rotatably engageably coupled with the first and second side gears such that the carried gears rotate between and around the first and second side gears. The carried gears are carried by a gear carrier. The carried gears are mechanically connected to the gear carrier such that rotation of the input shaft on its axis causes the gear carrier to carry the carried gears around the first and second side gears.
