  • Patent number: 5310390
Abstract: The input gear of the secondary gear train is mounted on a hollow input shaft and the reaction element of a planetary gear set is connected with a multi-plate brake and one-way clutch, which are disposed on the opposite side of the input gear with respect to the planetary gear set, by way of a shaft which passes through the hollow input shaft. The multi-plate brake is disposed radially outward of the one-way clutch. The output gear of the gear train is supported by bearings which are disposed on either side thereof. The bearing on the inboard side of the final gear is arranged to have a diameter which is larger than the output gear and supported in a wall portion of the transmission case per se.

  • Patent number: 5273500
Abstract: A self-contained change speed apparatus for use on a bicycle having a drive member and a hub body rotatably supported on a fixed shaft, and two planetary gear mechanisms arranged on a drive transmission path extending from the drive member to the hub body. The planetary gear mechanisms include planet gears meshed with sun gears switchable through externally controllable one-way clutches between a state of free rotation relative to the fixed shaft and a state of being locked to the fixed shaft. The controls of the one-way clutches acting on the sun gears are effected by relative positional relations between projections formed on the fixed shaft and control sections formed on a control member shiftable on peripheral surfaces of the fixed shaft. Such controls of the sun gears determine an output line extending through one of the two one-way clutches.

  • Patent number: 5234389
Abstract: A multi-directional planetary transmission mechanism adapted to establish plural torque flow paths between a driving member and a driven member including a one-way torque delivery clutch located in the torque flow path from the torque input element of the planetary gear system and a torque output shaft, and a friction brake means for anchoring the torque input element of the planetary gearing to establish a change in torque ratio wherein provision is made for disengaging the one-way clutch to interrupt torque delivery therethrough in either a driving direction or a coast direction and simultaneously anchoring said torque input element of said gearing to provide a torque reaction point.

  • Patent number: 5207123
Abstract: The invention relates to an electrohydraulic control for an automatic transmission of a motor vehicle. In order to be able to utilize, in the coasting operation of the motor vehicle in the driving position D of the automatic transmission, also the first gear, a one-way clutch, which transmits only driving torques but is required for the shifting operation, when the first gear is engaged, is bridged by a brake so that the transmission can transmit not only driving but also coasting torques and can therefore transmit the engine braking torque.

  • Patent number: 5139468
Abstract: A two speed engine accessory drive including a gear case 12 and an input shaft 26 rotatable about an axis that is concentric with the central gear case axis 54. The input shaft 26 carries a drive sun gear 38. A driven sun gear 78 is positioned adjacent to the drive sun gear and is attached to an accessory drive shaft 91 that is rotatable about an axis that is concentric with the central gear case axis 54. A compound planet gear 66 is supported by a planet gear carrier 52 that is rotatable about the central gear case axis 54. The compound planet gear 66 includes a rigid insert 70, a first plastic planet gear 76 secured to the insert and in mesh with the drive sun gear 38, and a second plastic planet gear 76 secured to the insert and in mesh with the driven sun gear 78. A brake band 98 is operable to allow or prevent rotation of the planet gear carrier 52.

  • Patent number: 5129871
Abstract: A shaft connected to a component of a planetary gearset is driveably connected by a coupling to alternate friction elements in accordance with the relative speeds of the coupling members and the direction of rotation of the driven coupling member. The coupling includes a radially inner one-way coupling and an outer one-way coupling, the outer race of the inner coupling and inner race of the outer coupling being the intermediate race, which is connected to the gearset. The inner race and outer race have cam surfaces contacting roller clutch elements located in a cage and spaced mutually about the coupling axis. The cam surfaces of the races are inclined with respect to the adjacent surface of the intermediate race in opposite directions, so that when one coupling drives, the other coupling overruns.

  • Patent number: 5055098
Abstract: An automatic power transmission includes a clutch drum integrally connected with an one-way clutch which is fixed to a support secured on a transmission casing so that each one bearing is required for supporting the clutch drum and the one-way clutch. A sun gear is also supported by means of a single bearing and is integrally formed with a spline which is loosely engageable with a spline of the clutch drum so that the radial force may not act in the spline engagement while an engine output torque is transmitted therethrough.
