Patent number: 5591099Abstract: A shift mechanism for an automatic transmission includes a frictional engagement element arranged between the case of the automatic transmission and one element of a planetary gear unit and a hydraulic servo unit for engaging the frictional engagement element. A one-way clutch is connected to that same one element of the planetary gear unit for selectively locking it to the case. The one-way clutch is axially spaced from the frictional engagement element with the hydraulic servo unit therebetween. Further, the one-way clutch has its outer race connected to the case and its inner race connected to the aforementioned element of the planetary gear unit through a connection member axially extending along the inner circumferential side of the hydraulic servo unit. The inner race is formed with a radial lubricating oil passage in fluid communication with an oil passage in a transmission shaft.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1995Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: Aisin AW Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kazumasa Tsukamoto, Masahiro Hayabuchi, Masanori Kadotani, Satoru Kasuya

Patent number: 5549011Abstract: A starter having a highly reliable overrunning clutch which has grooves on both a clutch member inner and a clutch outer member. Rollers are sandwiched from the front and rear torque conveyance direction by the roller contact surface of each groove, so a large stress such as with the roller-type overrunning clutch using the wedge-effect is not applied on each contact surface and roller contact surface. This reduces the inertia of the clutch, and suppresses the impact force generated when a pinion engages an engine ring gear.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1995Date of Patent: August 27, 1996Assignee: Nippondenso Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tsutomu Shiga, Nobuyuki Hayashi, Masanori Ohmi, Yasuhiro Nagao

Patent number: 5443553Abstract: A starter includes a housing having a water barrier wall, a drive shaft disposed in the housing, and pinion gear having a flange portion. The water barrier wall comes into contact with the flange portion when the starter is in operation. The pinion gear is adapted to engage with a ring gear of an engine, which the starter starts. The pinion gear contacts the drive shaft through a sliding portion. The structure of the starter prevents water, dust, dirt and other contaminants from leaking into the housing via a window in the housing. Thus, the function and operability of the starter is improved.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1994Date of Patent: August 22, 1995Assignee: Nippondenso Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tsutomu Shiga, Nobuyuki Hayashi, Masanori Ohmi, Masami Niimi

Patent number: 5397282Abstract: A final drive for a multi-speed power transmission has freewheeler timed up and down forward power shifts utilizing two planetary gear sets connected between the transmission and differential. For low ratio a smaller diameter sun gear of a first gear set is driven through a freewheeler with the associated ring gear held for reaction so that the pinion carrier assembly drives the differential at a low ratio. For high ratio, a larger diameter sun gear of a second gear set is directly driven while a high-reverse clutch holds the associated ring gear for reaction. The pinion carrier assembly common to both gear sets drives the differential at a higher speed ratio as the freewheeler overruns on torque reversal. The ring gear of the second gear set of one embodiment has a path to ground through an additional freewheeler for coast control. The outer race of the low-ratio freewheeler has external teeth to park-lock the associated sun gear through a grounded parking pawl.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1993Date of Patent: March 14, 1995Inventor: William A. Patent number: 5199309Abstract: In a starter unit, the internal gear frame of an epicycle reduction gear is set rotatable with respect to the front bracket, and a first over-running clutch is made up of a clutch outer fixed to the front bracket, and a clutch inner which is the front end portion of the internal gear frame, and a second over-running clutch which is a conventional over-running clutch is mounted on the output shaft. The provision of the two over-running clutches eliminates the difficulty that, when the start switch is turned on during the inertial rotation of the engine or starter unit, the pinion is reengaged with the ring gear, so that abnormal shock is applied to the side of the starter unit to damage the rotation transmitting members.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1991Date of Patent: April 6, 1993Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki K.K.Inventor: Shuzou Isozumi

Patent number: 5141476Abstract: Disclosed is a two-way-driven 3-speed free wheel which provides a multi-gear-changing mechanism for use with various kinds of pedal cycles. The disclosed device has four kinds of catches: pawl, hook-pawl, backward pawl and forward pawl. The backward and forward pawls respectively are hinged on the opposed sides of a sprocket wheel by small spindles mounted on the opposed sides of the sprocket wheel. On one side of the sprocket wheel are the backward pawls and an outer ring; on the other side are forward pawls, a ratchet cone and a bearing collar. Patent number: 5029688Abstract: A ring gear and an outer race of a one-way clutch are linked and secured in the axial direction. The outer peripheral section of a disk-shaped supporting member engages teeth of the ring gear and supports the ring gear, and a tapered snap ring is mounted in an indented groove with a tapered surface formed in the ring gear so that the side surface of the outer peripheral section of the support member is in intimate contact with the end surface of the outer race, and the support member is thus secured and prevented from withdrawing. An oil sump for lubricant supplied from the inner radial side is formed on the inner peripheral part of the outer race defined by the intimately contacted outer race and the support member. The ring gear of the planetary gear unit rotates when the automatic transmission actuates, and the integral support member also rotates based on the rotation of the ring gear.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1989Date of Patent: July 9, 1991Assignee: Aisin AW Co., Ltd.Inventors: Youichi Hayakawa, Chichiro Hosono, Masaaki Nishida, Shingo Uozumi
