Intermeshing Planet Pinions On Single Carrier Patents (Class 475/319)
  • Patent number: 9139086
Abstract: A transmission disposed in a housing with a power take off clutch, the clutch including a planetary gear assembly, a cage having an internal gear form engaging a first set of clutch plates, and a second set of clutch plates interleaved with the first set of clutch plates. The sun gear is engaged to and selectively driven by the second set of clutch plates, and a clutch mechanism engages the clutch plates to transmit a rotational force of the cage to the sun gear. A power take off shaft extends into the housing and is driven by the planetary gear assembly. The power take off shaft has a second axis of rotation that is perpendicular to the axis of rotation of a primary input to the transmission.

  • Patent number: 8808132
Abstract: A torque vectoring differential includes a pair of planetary gear assemblies having a common planet gear carrier which is driven from the output of a transmission. Each of the planetary gear assemblies include a ring gear that may be individually and selectively grounded (braked) to a stationary housing by a friction brake and a sun gear that is coupled through an axle to a respective drive wheel. Selective activation of the brakes controls the distribution, i.e., vectoring, of torque to each of the drive wheels. Each planetary gear assembly includes elongated planet gears which mesh not only with their respective sun and ring gears but also with the planet gears of the other planetary gear assembly.

The new wheel assembly (14) also includes a quick disconnect mechanism for easy change of the wheel assembly (14) from the wheelchair (10) without tools. A torque collar (144), on the inboard side of the hub (22), couples with a sleeve assembly (136) on the wheelchair (10) and allows torque to transfer directly from hub (22) to wheelchair (10).

  • Patent number: 5141477
Abstract: A multistage automatic transmission has input and output shafts which are coaxially arranged, a first planetary gearset, a second planetary gearset, a plurality of clutches, and first and second brakes. The first planetary gearset includes mutually meshed paired pinions that mesh with a first sun gear and a first ring gear, and a carrier that rotatably carries the mutually meshed paired pinions. The second planetary gearset includes a single type pinion meshed with a second sun gear and a second ring gear, and a second carrier that rotatably carries the single type pinion. The first and second gearset are coaxially aligned between the input and output shafts. The arrangement of the clutches is such that when shifting to any particular neighboring gear, the condition of no more than two of the clutches needs to be changed.

Abstract: An actuator for frictional engaging devices is controlled by electric signals from a control device and is disposed in a power transmission device. The actuator includes a torque generating mechanism and has at least two movably mounted frictional engaging devices having respective initial positions. The actuator includes a torque-thrust conversion mechanism which converts torque generated from the torque generating mechanism into an augmented thrust force for moving the frictional engaging devices from the respective initial positions to different positions respectively.
