  • Patent number: 5456640
Abstract: An automatic transmission having an input annulus and a first bevel gear integrally attached to an input shaft to thereby divide torque in the input shaft into two torque components. A sun gear is rotatably mounted about the input shaft, and a set of planetary gears are in simultaneous meshing engagement (i) about the sun gear and (ii) with interior teeth of the input annulus. The sun gear includes a second bevel gear fixedly attached to a side of said sun gear and in substantial co-axial orientation with the sun gear and the first bevel gear. At least one torque-varying gear member comprises a torque-combining bevel gear and a torque-delivering gear integrally intercoupled by a stub shaft. The torque-combining bevel gear is in simultaneous meshing engagement with the first and second bevel gears, and the torque-delivering gear is in meshing engagement with an output gear, said output gear being integrally attached to an output shaft.

  • Patent number: 5242336
Abstract: There is disclosed a planet gear apparatus having a gear structure wherein a sun gear attached to an input shaft is a conical involute external gear, one of two adjacent ring gears differing slightly in inside diameter and number of teeth is a stationary ring gear fixed to the planet gear apparatus, the other of the two ring gears is a rotary ring gear rotating about an rotational axis of the input shaft, and a plurality of planetary gears are cylindrical involute spur gears. A rotational axis of each planetary gear is inclined at an angle to the rotational axis of the input shaft, and each planetary gear is meshed between the sun gear, on the one hand, and the two ring gears, on the other, while rotating about its own axis and revolving around the sun gear.

  • Patent number: 5106353
Abstract: A variable transmission is disclosed. An input shaft for rotational input has a first gear securably mounted at the terminal end of the input. A cross shaft is spaced apart from the terminal end of the input shaft and a second gear is securely mounted at the second end of the cross shaft with the second gear in direct mechanical communication with the first gear. A fifth gear with a hub is rotatably mounted on the input shaft. A third gear is securably mounted at the first end of the cross shaft with the third gear being in direct mechanical communication with the fifth gear. An output shaft terminates in a fourth gear with the fourth gear positioned opposite the fifth gear and in direct mechanical communication with the third gear.
