Plural Planet Carriers In Series Move At Different Speeds Patents (Class 475/337)
  • Patent number: 8323143
Abstract: A wheel drive assembly includes a rotatable spindle-carrier affixed to a wheel. A fixed housing includes an output ring gear and the spindle-carrier resides generally within the housing. An output sun gear driven by an input carrier drives output planetary gears which, in turn, interengage the output ring gear driving and rotating the spindle-carrier. A fixed drive end housing includes an input ring gear and houses a noise reducing radially floating input carrier and a plurality of input planet gears rotatably mounted in the input carrier. The input sun gear is driven by an electric motor and drives the plurality of input planet gears which mesh with the input ring gear causing rotation of the input carrier about its true center. The input carrier is partially nested within the spindle-carrier and the motor is partially nested within the fixed drive end housing.

Abstract: The invention relates to devices including rotary units and rotary mechanisms that are suitable for use in numerous applications. Rotary units typically include rotational components that are configured to rotate. In some embodiments, for example, multiple rotary units are assembled in rotary mechanisms such that neighboring pairs of rotational components counter-rotate or contra-rotate relative to one another during operation of the rotary mechanisms. Rotational components generally include one or more implements that are structured to perform or effect one or more types of work as the rotational components rotate relative to one another in a given rotary mechanism. In certain embodiments, implements are configured to rotate and/or to effect the movement of other components as rotational components rotate.

The ring gear of the reduction gear has two parts rotationally immobilized in the tube and one part meshes with the satellites of the input stage and the other part meshes with the satellites of the output stage. The two ring gear parts are connected to one another by a connection component interlocked axially in each of the two ring gear parts and fixed to the tube. This allows the ring gear to be immobilized more completely; the diameter of the output shaft may be greater and the reduction gear may be designed ion a modular form.

  • Patent number: 5295925
Abstract: A two-stage planetary gear transmission having a first-stage planetary gear transmission and a second-stage planetary gear transmission is disclosed, wherein the carrier of the second-stage planetary gear transmission comprises first and second carrier parts integrally connected with each other. A hollow pinion shaft formed thereon with the sun gear of the second stage is rotationally supported on the first carrier part via a deep-channel ball bearing in a cantilevered condition. A carrier of the first stage for supporting planetary gears of the first stage is integrally formed on the end of the hollow pinion shaft of the second stage. A lubricant layer of about 15 .mu.m to about 20 .mu.m in width is formed between an inner race member of a planetary bearing and a planetary shaft for each of the planetary gears of the second stage.

  • Patent number: 5011341
Abstract: A pneumatic power tool having a rotary driven output spindle defining an axis, an air motor having an output shaft axially aligned with the output spindle, transmission means connecting the output shaft and the spindle, and control means for operating the air motor. Incorporated in the transmission means is a two speed gear system to provide a first drive having a lower torque output and a second gear reduced having a higher torque output and a lower rotary speed output relative to the first drive. The two speed gear system also includes a spindle assembly which is axially translatable, biasing means for biasing the spindle assembly to the first drive position, and a collar rotatable about the axis and including a follower cooperative between the spindle assembly and the collar to effect axial movement of the spindle assembly between the first and second drive positions.

  • Patent number: 4988329
Abstract: A final drive assembly for transferring power from a vehicle engine and transmission to a vehicle propulsion unit, such as an endless track assembly, has a power input shaft coupled to first and second planetary gear assemblies. The second planetary gear assembly is coupled to a torque tube portion of a sprocket support member for rotating a drive sprocket. The power input shaft, first and second planetary gear assemblies, and the torque tube portion are substantially co-axial, and the first and second planetary gears assemblies are positioned inwardly of the sprocket support member. By positioning the planetary assemblies inwardly of the sprocket support member, additional gears, hubs, splines, and shafts are eliminated and the planetary assemblies are less susceptible to damage. The planetary gear assemblies are substantially free-floating which eliminates the cost and complexity of additional bearing supports.

  • Patent number: 4987788
Abstract: In an electric motor-driven positioning element for steering the rear wheels of a passenger car, a rotor of an electric motor is mounted on a ball nut which is adapted to effect axial displacement of a ball screw. The ball nut supports on a flange the shafts of pinions of a planetary gear unit, with the sun wheel of that planetary gear unit being driven by the rotor of the electric motor. The housing accommodates an electro-magnetic dog clutch which serves to block the ball nut during the time the electric motor is not energized.

  • Patent number: 4926715
Abstract: A planetary gear train comprising at least two planetary gear sets arranged coaxially behind, and drivingly connected with, one another, of which one planetary gear set (5) contains fewer, and the other planetary set (17) more, planet gears (7) and the planet gears and their bearings in both planetary gear sets are identically constructed. The pitch diameter of the sun gear (16) and the pitch diameter of the ring bear (18) of the other planetary gear set (17) are larger than in one planetary gear set (5), and both sets (5, 17) are constructed for approximately the same line loading of the sun gears, planet gears, and ring gears (force per face width in the contact line of two teeth which bear against each other). Thus, a gear unit is obtained which has a smaller cross section with up to 50% savings in weight.
