    Abstract: A planet wheel shaft includes a bearing portion for acting as a slide-bearing in cooperation with a planet wheel of a planetary gear. On at least one axial region of the bearing portion, a cross-sectional shape deviates from a circular shape so that the bearing portion is thicker in a first direction than in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The deviation from the circular shape widens a wedge-shaped gap that is between the bearing portion and the planet wheel when there is load in the first direction. This facilitates oil supply to an area where hydrodynamic oil pressure is formed for carrying load in the first direction because the widening the wedge-shaped gap compensates for narrowing the gap due to ovalization of the planet wheel caused by load in the second direction.

The stub shafts are retained in the carrier by transverse retaining pins received in the second carrier flange and extending into the shafts. Unitized washers are disposed between both faces of the planet gears and the flanges. The method of assembly is also a feature of the present invention.

    Abstract: A gear arrangement for a planetary gearbox includes a planet carrier, a planet pin, a planet gear, bearing means located between the planet pin and the planet gear, the bearing means including a bearing ring, a retainer secured to the planet carrier by one or more bolts, and one or more shims located between the retainer and the planet pin. The planet pin is hollow and is in fluid communication with an inside surface of the bearing ring and with an inlet. This means that a fluid forced via the inlet and the hollow planet pin applies a radial force to the bearing ring, reducing the contact friction between the bearing ring and the planet pin and allowing an axial position of the planet pin to be adjusted to provide a correct preloading to the bearing means.     Abstract: A shaft retainer for a planet gear carrier of a planetary gear assembly both retains the pinion shafts within the carrier and maintains their angular orientation to achieve improved oil flow to the pinion bearings. Each of the pinion shafts includes an opening and an axial passageway that communicates with a radial passageway at the middle of the shaft. At the end of the pinion shaft opposite the axial passageway opening is a flat extending across the shaft. The flat is normal to the axis of the radial passageway. The pinion shafts are slip fit into suitable bores in the planetary gear carrier and support a needle bearing and planet or pinion gear. At one end of the carrier, the flats are engaged by a circular retainer so that the radial passageways of each of the pinion shafts are oriented radially outwardly. The circular retainer may either be a flat circular plate or have an L-shaped cross-section.
