Abstract: A transmission is provided having an input member, an output member, at least four planetary gear sets, coupling members, and torque transmitting devices. Each of the planetary gear sets includes first, second and third members. The torque transmitting devices include clutches and brakes actuatable in combinations of two to establish at least eleven forward gear ratios and one reverse gear ratio. A clutch assembly for use in an automatic transmission is provided that includes an apply piston and a stationary fluid supply member. The apply piston is configured to rotate during at least one gear speed of the automatic transmission. The stationary fluid supply member has portions forming a channel in the stationary fluid supply member and defining an outlet end of the channel. The stationary fluid supply member is configured to supply fluid to the apply piston through the outlet end of the channel.

Abstract: When a through speed ratio, which is an overall speed ratio of a variator and a subtransmission mechanism, varies from a larger speed ratio than a mode switch speed ratio to a smaller speed ratio than the mode switch speed ratio, a gear position of the subtransmission mechanism is changed from a first gear position to a second gear position. The mode switch speed ratio is set at a through speed ratio obtained when the speed ratio of the variator is a Highest speed ratio and the gear position of the subtransmission mechanism is the first gear position.
Abstract: First and second oil flow passages are defined in a wall portion of a transmission casing. The first oil flow passage has an open end exposed to an interior of the casing. The second oil passage is connected to the first oil passage through a connection opening defined by the first oil passage. A separate pipe member has a predetermined end portion that is inserted into the first oil passage from the open end of the same. The predetermined end portion comprises a cylindrical portion having a fixed length; an end opening defined by an end of the cylindrical portion and exposed to the first oil passage; and an orifice opening defined by a side wall of the cylindrical portion. The orifice opening is blocked by an inner wall of the first oil passage when the connection opening takes a first position relative to the open end of the first oil passage, and exposed to the second oil passage when the connection opening takes a second position relative to the open end of the first oil passage.
Abstract: A shift control method for an automatic transmission having a primary shift portion and a secondary shift portion is provided that comprises: starting, if a shift signal is output, a shift in the secondary shift portion, and then starting a shift in the primary shift portion; performing feedback control of duty ratios of friction element solenoids for the primary shift portion with a goal of approaching a change rate of a difference between an input speed and an output speed of the primary shift portion to a first target speed change rate, and simultaneously performing feedback control of duty ratios of friction element solenoids for the secondary shift portion with a goal of approaching a change rate of a turbine speed to a second target speed change rate; and completing the shift in the primary shift portion, and then completing the shift in the secondary shift portion.

Abstract: In an automatic transmission having a torque converter with a pump impeller, a turbine runner, and a stator, a stator shaft is provided to support the stator on its outer periphery and to rotatably support a transmission input shaft on its inner periphery. A magnetostrictive torque sensor is provided to detect the magnitude of input torque transmitted to the transmission input shaft. The magnetostrictive torque sensor includes a magnetic material having a magnetostrictive property and attached onto the outer periphery of the transmission input shaft, and a cylindrical magnetic-property detector mounted on the inner periphery of the stator shaft and arranged to be opposite to the magnetic material to detect a change in a magnetic property of the magnetic material, occurring owing to the input torque applied to the transmission input shaft.
Abstract: The device for the contactless measurement of the rotational speed of a first part which rotates during operation and which is arranged inside a second part that either does not rotate or rotates at a rotational speed that is independent of the rotational speed of the first part, has an arrangement which generates a magnetic field and a magnetic field detector, wherein the arrangement which generates the magnetic field has a magnet ring (4) integrated in the inner part (1) and wherein the magnetic field detector is a Hall-effect sensor (3) situated in a housing (6) that surrounds both parts: the second part (2) consists of a non-magnetizable material.

Abstract: An inter-axle differential assembly having a lubrication pump is provided. The pump is disposed between the input and output shafts of the differential within a bore defined by a side gear coupled to or integral with the output shaft. The pump includes a housing that defines first and second ports and includes an arcuate groove in a radially outer surface. A pin extends radially inwardly from the side gear and is received within the groove. The groove and pin cooperate to enable rotation of the entire pump relative to the side gear and to thereby exchange the positions of the two ports. In this manner, the assembly provides a reversible pump that provides lubricant only during relative rotation between the input and output shafts of the differential.

Abstract: In an arrangement for automatically changing gear in an epicyclic change-speed gearbox from a previous gear, in which a first frictional connection (clutch or brake) is engaged, into another gear, in which a second frictional connection is engaged, the working pressure for engaging the first frictional connection is switched off when the working pressure for engaging the second frictional connection reaches a significant pressure value. The pressure value is determined by comparison with a reference parameter which depends on the load torque.
