Bar Held By Single Hand Of User (e.g., Dumbbell, Etc.) Patents (Class 482/108)
  • Patent number: 5154681
Abstract: A folding dumbell and barbell device having an elongated far with weights mounted on opposing ends of the elongated bar. Each of the weights contain a pivoting mechanism within the body of the weights and a slot in the inner side of the weights which will receive the elongated bar when the weights are pivoted or folded to the folding position. The pivoting mechanism attaches to the end of the elongated bar in the slot, thereby providing a pivoting point inside the weights. Each of the weights also includes a locking mechanism which locks the weights in the open position while exercising. To fold the dumbell or barbell, the locking mechanism is disengaged, the weights pivot with the pivot mechanism and are folded over on the bar and receive the bar in the slot in the side of the weights. With the slot in the weights receiving the entire size of the bar, the folding dumbell and barbell device, when folded is the thickness of the weights. All parts remain attached for folding.

  • Patent number: 5137502
Abstract: A disc-shaped weight includes a circular opening in the center and a pair of diametrically opposed, elongated oval openings disposed parallel to one another and equidistant from the circular opening. The oval openings are positioned in the disc-shaped weight so that the fingers and thumb of a human hand may be disposed through the openings for sufficient gripping of the weight. The distance between the outer periphery of the elongated side of either opening, proximal to the outer periphery of the disc member, is dimensioned so that the fingers of a human hand can be disposed through the desired opening and the thumb can be wrapped around the outer periphery of the weight, for sufficient gripping of the weight. The periphery of the elongated oval openings and outer periphery of the weight is rounded to aid in gripping of the weight.

  • Patent number: 5135454
Abstract: A dumb bell comprises mainly a hand grip unit, a sound reproducing unit, and a weights unit. The hand grip unit consists of a lower case body and an upper case body, which are of hollow construction and are made of plastic material by injection molding. The lower case body is provided therein with battery mounts, circuit mounts located in one connection portion thereof and a circular tubular column located in the other connection portion thereof. The connection portions are respectively provided with thread. The sound reproducing device comprises batteries, conductive pieces mounted in the battery mounts, a sound reproducing circuit board mounted in the circuit mounts, and a speaker mounted on the circular tubular column. The sound reproducing device is capable of producing the sound of music or exercise commands.

  • Patent number: 5135455
Abstract: A user friendly dumbbell that is comfortable, safe and durable, and which also protects against damage to surfaces against which the dumbbell may come into contact is disclosed. The dumbbell is typically provided with an elongated shaft and enlarged members attached to opposite free ends of the elongated shaft. Surrounding protective and durable coverings are provided for the elongated shaft and enlarged members that is both user friendly during use, while also protecting supporting and other surfaces against damage when the dumbbell is not in use. The protective and durable covering along the elongated shaft includes a resilient and compressible element having at least one porous high density foam rubber covering.

  • Patent number: 5131898
Abstract: An exercise device which is designed for connecting it to identical exercise devices. The exercise device is a dumbbell with a pair of solid single dumbbell weights securely mounted on each end of an axially extending short handle. There are three male connectors and three female connectors positioned for connecting the dumbbell to another dumbbell either horizontally or vertically. The connection of two exercise devices is maintained by holding the exercise devices together with two hands while gripping the short handles of the exercise devices. Included is a corresponding weight training method.

  • Patent number: 5110119
Abstract: A pair of exercise devices for respectively performing the "curl" and "fly" exercise. Each device utilizes a clamping assembly for receiving a range of user selectable free weights therein. Each clamping assembly is associated with a support assembly for the lower arm of the user. Upon the user grouping a handle the "curl" and "fly" exercises are performed with the clamped weight of the respective devices offering resistance thereto.

  • Patent number: 5102124
Abstract: Exercise apparatus comprises a mounting member in the form of a bar and weights for location at the ends of the mounting member. Each weight has a substantially planar base and a mounting channel above the centre of gravity of the weight. The bar has mounting portions of complementary non-circular cross section to the mounting channels in the weights. The coupling between the channels and the weights and the mounting portions of the bar are configured to prevent rotation of the weight on the bar, such that during exercises the centre of gravity of the weights remains below the bar. A rotatable grip portion is provided on the bar, to accommodate rotation of the grip of the lifter on the bar.
