Bar Held By Single Hand Of User (e.g., Dumbbell, Etc.) Patents (Class 482/108)
  • Patent number: 5616108
Abstract: A dumbbell support attachment for holding a dumbbell from a barbell cross bar so that the dumbbell can be used with a typical weight lifting bench. Suspended from the barbell cross bar when it is supported, in the usual manner, above the weight lifting bench, the attachment provides the user with a convenient support on which to mount a dumbbell at the beginning and end of an exercise routine. The attachment includes a segmented section and an elongated hook, which together form an integral unit preferably fabricated from steel or the like. Adapted for mounting over the cross bar, the hook opens downwardly and has an inner surface disposed generally along a semicircular arc of slightly larger diameter than that of the crossbar. The segmented section, on the other hand, opens upwardly and has a curved inner surface with a radius of curvature which is larger than that of the outer periphery of the heaviest dumbbell weights to be used.

  • Patent number: 5573484
Abstract: An auxiliary handle for a dumbbell includes a pair of weighted hook members each joined to a handle by a threaded stud. The hook members are adapted to engage the handle of a dumbbell. The studs are oppositely threaded so that rotation of the handle in one direction moves the hook members away from each other and into engagement with the dumbbell weights, thus securing the auxiliary handle to the dumbbell. The auxiliary handle may be used by a spotter to assist in handling the dumbbell.

  • Patent number: 5266069
Abstract: A flotation barbell for water exercise which includes an elongated handle member to which are attached two identical homogenous buoyant triangular end sections, shaped in the form of a triangular prism having two triangular ends and three rectangular sides. The buoyant triangular end sections are attached to the ends of the handle member so that the triangular faces of the end sections are transverse to the longitudinal axis of the elongated handle member, and the corresponding sides of the two end sections are coplanar. The ends of the handle member are inserted into apertures centrally formed between the triangular end faces in each section. An end plate, preferably triangular in shape, includes a central protrusion which extends so as to affixedly engage an end of the handle member, with the end plate pressing against the outer end face of the end section.

  • Patent number: 5222930
Abstract: This invention relates to an inertial force accommodating resistance exercise device and method having dense body extremities and an associated method of exercise for using the device. The subject device develops fitness for the user by providing the capability to acceleratedly translate inertial mass across a surface in order for the user to experience accommodating, inertial force resistance. In its preferred embodiment, the subject device is a two-wheeled body with the majority of the device's mass being concentrated in the body's extremities resulting in the extremities being denser than the wheels or the central section of the body. Each of the extremities comprise an inertial mass and axle. The device's wheels are mounted at their hubs on the axles in a mutually parallel posture along the length of the body at opposite ends of the body's central section with the diameters of the wheels perpendicular to the body's center line.
