Abstract: A balance beam for training gymnasts has been invented. The balance beam has the capability of absorbing the downward momentum of a gymnast landing on the beam and then providing a near equal upward thrust to the gymnast allowing greater heights and longer air time in an immediately following jump thus facilitating the quicker learning of gymnastic skills. To achieve this, the beam is supported within a frame of similar dimension as the beam. The components which support the beam within the frame are located at each end of the beam and consist of a special arrangement of springs and elastic straps which represent the embodiment of the invention.

Abstract: A ropeboard apparatus includes a ropeboard, and a support rope for hanging the ropeboard from an elevated structure. The ropeboard comprises an elongated platform having a longitudinal platform axis and a top surface shaped for a user to stand thereon, and a coupler for rotatably coupling the platform to the support rope so that the platform can be rotated about its longitudinal axis. The ropeboard apparatus may also include a spunk or universal joint for attaching the support rope to the structure, and a handle attached to the support rope at a location above the ropeboard. The coupler may comprise a shaft rigidly connected to the platform and oriented along the longitudinal axis, and a connector rotatably coupled to the shaft for connecting the platform to the support rope. The subject ropeboard apparatus is a new recreational and sporting apparatus that facilitates the performance of an extreme sport involving stunts and tricks.

Abstract: A novel balance exercise apparatus and method of training is disclosed which includes a spanning system which spans between two positions in space and supports a suspended system which is suspended between the two positions in space. A user trains their balance skills and exercises by positioning all or part of their body on the suspended system and then moves their body to maintain their balance while remaining in place or doing exercises. The suspended system creates a dynamic balance environment where the suspended system may move such as swing, bend, rotate, or twist, all controlled by the balance and movement of the user. The suspended system may consist of rigid and/or flexible devices that are supported by the spanning system above the ground. In addition, the spanning system and the suspended system may include devices to vary the nature and difficulty of the dynamic balance environment.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for achieving dynamic balance exercise by using an elongated board that is tiltable in a longitudinal direction and energized by a set of motor-driven wheels which are connected to oppose the tilting action. A front to back (pitching) and side to side twisting (yawing) of the board is accomplished concurrently with the longitudinal tilting (rolling) movement to balance the exercise experience and improve the subjects fore-and-aft balance.

Abstract: The floor level balance training strip of this invention relates to a gymnastics balance beam. More particularly, the invention relates to a balance training device that will attach to a flat horizontal carpeted or correlating surface thus providing a non-skid linear surface upon which a person may stand, walk or tumble. The invention is comprised of an elongated material strip having opposite ends, an upper surface and a correlating base composed of an adhesive hook fastening element. The hook fastening element located on the underside or base of the floor level balance training strip is used to attach the floor level balance training strip to a carpeted or otherwise compatible flat surface to sufficiently maintain it in a horizontal position. The invention uses a thin strip of loop fastening element to one end so the strip will remain coiled when rolled for stowage.

Abstract: In accordance with the principles of the present invention an exercise device is provided that comprises an oscillating platform and a support platform. The oscillating platform is connected to the support platform by a support having a main axis and an oscillating platform axis extending at an angle from the main axis, such that the oscillating platform defines a plane that is non-parallel to a plane defined by the support platform. An oscillating platform stabilizer enables the free angular undulating movement of the oscillating platform. Inertia or momentum of the angular movement of the platform is provided, thereby providing a fluid and continuous change in the angular orientation of the platform.

  • Patent number: 7300392
Abstract: A board for balance training has an upper footstep surface, lower bearing surface and a progressive series of concentric, cylindrical sub-frames depending from the lower surface which enclose progressively smaller framed-in areas of the bearing surface within progressively smaller framed-in crown-cavities defined by each. This progressive series ranges extremes of a major in size to minor, with none, one or more intermediates. All at least but the major sub-frame are selectively removable from the board for clearing way for progressively larger framed-in crown-cavities. Any of the sub-frames permit a training ball to roll freely sandwiched between the board and ground unless stopped against any portion of that sub-frame. Selectively utilizing a minor sub-frame over, conversely, exclusion thereof in favor of any of the progressively larger sub-frames, progressively changes the level of difficulty for trainees standing on the upper footstep surface.
