  • Patent number: 8220846
Abstract: A latch is provided for use principally on a pivotal sash window of a double-hung sash window assembly. The latch comprises a latch-bolt slidably mounted within and biased relative to a housing, where the housing is mounted to the top rail of the sash window. The latch bolt is connected to a button for manual actuation of the latch bolt. The latch bolt, while maintaining the convenience and utility of a standard short throw latch, is contoured and designed to maintain engagement with the jam after the window has been deformed under high sustained wind loading typically experienced during extreme weather phenomena such as hurricanes and tornados. The engagement is assured in spite of twisting of the latch bolt within the corresponding opening in the jam.

Abstract: A tilt in window with sashes movably mounted to the interior of the frame and inwardly pivotable. Each of the sashes is held within jamb channels by capture legs which overlap a portion of the interior side of the sashes to restrain the sashes from inward movement, when the window is normally closed. The sashes are movable within the jamb channels for a distance to permit sashes to be removed from being held by the retaining members. With such removal the sashes are able to be inwardly pivoted. In one embodiment, a bottom outwardly facing sill is sloped downward to prevent water accumulation with the sill being integrated with sloping jamb sections, in continuity with the sill. • Patent number: 5631088
Abstract: A material used to fabricate sashes used by window assemblies. The material comprises a foam core covered by a cladding material. The foam core acts as a filler and provides insulation, while the cladding material protects the foam core from the environment and physical abuse. Often, a structural assembly or member is provided to stiffen the sash material. The cladding and structural assembly are placed into a mold and resin is injected into the mold between the cladding and the structural assembly. The resin cures to form the foam core. • Patent number: 4356667
Abstract: A tilt latch for a sliding window sash comprising a unitary molded plastic article including a base portion mountable on the top of a window sash, a body portion having a projecting nose for insertion in a channel of a window frame, and a narrow thin portion hingedly connecting the body to the base for enabling movement of the body between a closed position overlying the base and an open position. Two such latches are respectively mounted on opposite sides of a window sash; when the latch bodies are in the closed position, their noses are respectively received in vertical channels of the window frame for retaining the sash in the frame, while movement of the latch bodies to open position permits the sash to be tilted out of the frame. Each latch is provided with a manually releasable lock, such as a pin projecting from the base and received with interference fit in an opening of the body, for retaining the body in the closed position.
