Retractable Edgewise Towards Closure Patents (Class 49/185)
  • Patent number: 5485705
Abstract: A corner assembly, for holding a screen frame, is provided in which the corner assembly has a pair of arms disposed to be connected to frame side members, preferably by being telescopically received therein, for installation inside a fixed frame at the periphery of a window. Each corner assembly includes a slide member carried in a slideway, which slide member carries a retaining protrusion extending therefrom, and with the slide member having a manually engageable, movable button, movable longitudinally, to move the slide member and its protruding button between two positions, one position of which is an extended position for the retaining protrusion, and another position of which is a retracted position therefor. In the extended position of the retaining protrusion, the protrusion is adapted to engage within a recess of a fixed frame member of a window.

Abstract: A corner assembly and frame comprising such assembly is provided, for holding a screen or the like, in which the corner assembly has a pair of arms disposed to be connected to frame side members, preferably by being telescopically received therein, with a frame generally having such corner assemblies at corners thereof, for facilitating retaining the frame assembly, which is a removable assembly, inside a fixed frame at the periphery of a window. Each corner assembly includes a slide member carried in a slideway, which slide member carries a retaining protrusion extending therefrom, and with the slide member having a manually engageable button, movable button, movable longitudinally, to move the slide member and its protruding button between two positions, one position of which is an extended position for the retaining protrusion, and another position of which is a retracted position therefor.

  • Patent number: 5398447
Abstract: A centrally located window release retractor handle for a tilt-in window is presented. The handle readily attaches to an existing tilt-in window top sash. Attached to the handle is a retractor wheel. Attached to the retractor wheel are left and right retractor cables which are in turn attached to the left and right window release retractors. As the handle and wheel are rotated, the retractor cables are tensioned and draw the window release retractors inwardly. This action allows the tilt-in window to release at the top. The window may then be tilted inwardly by use of the handle leaving the user's other hand free to clean the window. The device is suitable to be mounted on the top of existing tilt-in windows although it may also be manufactured as a complete unit with the handle and retractor cables completely inside the top sash.

  • Patent number: 5127685
Abstract: A latch for use in window constructions, particularly vertically and horizontally sliding window constructions. The latch is generally mounted internally in a window sash frame so that its latch bolt protrudes from the sash to engage a guide slot in the main frame jamb or header of a window frame. The latch includes a thin rectangular base plate having upstanding bosses on its opposing ends which are pierced by vertical bores that pass through the base plate. The latch bolt is of substantially the same width as the base plate and slides over it. The bolt includes two openings spaced to receive the upstanding bosses on the base plate, each opening having a first lower region sized to slidably accommodate a boss and a second wider ovate upper region sized to slidably accommodate the head of a screw fastener. Two screw fasteners driven respectively through the vertical bores in the bosses on the ends of the base plate affix the latch to a window sash and secure the bolt to the base plate.

  • Patent number: 4961286
Abstract: A toggle tilt latch for a tiltable window assembly which comprises a base adapted to be mounted to a window sash, a handle pivotally mounted to the base and a plunger operatively associated and movable with the handle. The plunger has a free end which protrudes from the base and engages the window frame when the window sash is in its normal vertical position. The plunger is retracted into the base by rotating the handle away from the base. This will allow the window sash to tilt inwardly relative to the window frame. The handle portion not only gives a ready visual indication of whether the plunger is retracted or not but also can be used as hand holds by a user to facilitate tilting of the window sash relative to the window frame.

  • Patent number: 4955159
Abstract: A retaining catch for a tip-out sash provides an automatically deployed retainer mechanism for a sash slidably captive in a window frame or jamb. The sash can be raised and lowered by sliding it along the jamb. A releasable tenon, for example at the top edge of the sash, allows the user to rotate the sash out of the plane of the jamb, facilitating cleaning of the outside. Releasing the sash from the jamb by releasing the tenon activates a mechanism with a distal hook by which the edge of the sash remains captive and displacement of the edge of the sash from the jamb is limited to the unfolded length of the mechanism. The mechanism can be released fully from the jamb by manual action of the user, whereupon the hook returns under spring bias to reside along the edge of the sash.

  • Patent number: 4763445
Abstract: A combined slide guide and pivot pin for engaging the sash balance of a double-hung window assembly, and for riding in a guide rail of the master frame jamb of the window assembly to retain the guide rail in alignment relative to the sash window when the window is slided, utilizes a unitary metal member having, at a first end, a notched upper surface adapted to engage the sash balance, and having a cross-bar, as a slide guide, disposed proximate the first end with bevelled upper and lower surfaces.
