Closure Hinged To Carriage Patents (Class 49/223)
  • Patent number: 11639621
Abstract: A hold-open latch structure for opposite sliding doors for a vehicle includes a roller mechanism swing arm which rotates about a rotating shaft formed in a roller mechanism at the time of opening or closing the door, and moves the door toward the inside and outside of the vehicle and in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle. A locking unit enables the door to be opened or closed and maintains an opened state of the door. The locking unit further includes a catch pivotably mounted on the rotating shaft and coupled to the roller mechanism swing arm so as to rotate together with the roller mechanism swing arm at the time of opening or closing the door. A lever is mounted so that one side of the lever is in contact with the catch.

Further, when the swing-arm and sliding door are in the full-open position, the sliding door's center of gravity is only slightly offset aft of the carriage support arrangement, thereby reducing the force needed to remove the swing-arm, carriage support arrangement and vehicle sliding door to a fully-closed position.

  • Patent number: 4268996
Abstract: A track assembly for a sliding closure member comprising a track extending in a longitudinal direction. A support arm is mounted at one end in the track for travelling movement along the track by a connecting means which retains the arm generally perpendicular to the track during part of the travelling movement. The connecting means also permits rotation of the arm about an axis perpendicular to the common plane of the track and arm in one end region of the track. The connecting means comprises a ball roller mounted on the arm for rolling movement along the track when the arm is generally perpendicular to the track. The ball roller also permits rotation of the connecting means about the axis perpendicular to the common plane of the arm and the track. A holding means engages the connecting means to prevent such rotation when the connecting means is not positioned in the end region of the track.

  • Patent number: 4240226
Abstract: The device for guiding and actuating a vertical air-tight sliding door is suspended from two carriages each provided with a right-angled support bracket which is capable of horizontal displacement in a slideway. A bent plate which carries the door is rotatably mounted on an elbowed shaft fixed on each carriage. The bent plate carries a roller controlled by a fork and plate assembly which is pivotally mounted on the shaft and actuated by a jack. As the roller reaches the end of the track, the fork and plate assembly is permitted to rotate, with the result that the door carries out a compound movement of downward displacement and application against the wall.

  • Patent number: 4152872
Abstract: An elongate guide track having at least one elongate ridge portion is fixed to a side wall of a vehicle in such a manner that the ridge portion extends substantially horizontally and projects upwardly. A vertical roller and at least one horizontal roller are rotatably connected to an end of the door through a pivotable bracket member. The vertical roller is formed at its peripheral wall with an annular groove so as to slidably receive therein the elongate ridge portion.

  • Patent number: 4142327
Abstract: What follows is a description of a three track mechanism assembly for a vehicle door, and in particular for a light rail vehicle door. Each track mechanism includes a guide rail for guiding the door in its opening and closing movement relative to the vehicle body. Two of the track mechanisms include actuators for producing the opening and closing movement of the door. One of these actuators produces the desired longitudinal displacement of the door relative to the vehicle body, while the other actuator produces the desired transverse displacement of the door relative to the vehicle body. In addition, an extraction device can be included with the track mechanism having the actuator producing the desired longitudinal displacement for assisting the other actuator in producing the desired transverse displacement of the door relative to the vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 4110934
Abstract: A hinge and latch mechanism to guide one edge of a vehicle sliding door for initially moving the edge laterally away from a vehicle body during opening and subsequently guiding movement of the edge in a longitudinal direction along the vehicle body. A generally U-shaped link member is utilized to support the one edge, a leg of which is operably connected to the door while a second leg is operably connected to the vehicle body. The body-oriented leg has a cam member attached thereto interactive with a door latching arm to prevent longitudinal movement of the latch mechanism during initial pivoting movement of the door to a laterally outward position and to permit subsequent longitudinal movement after the initial lateral movement.

  • Patent number: 4081926
Abstract: Sunroof apparatus is provided for a passenger motor vehicle, which apparatus includes a rigid movable cover member for closing a sunroof opening. In order to minimize the space taken by the drive mechanism for moving the cover member to open positions from the closed position thereof, a single incompressible drive cable is provided which has one end attached to a guide element at one lateral side of the cover member and the other opposite end attached to a guide element at the opposite lateral side of the cover member. A cable driving mechanism such as an electric motor is disposed intermediate the ends of the cable for drivingly moving the same in respective opposite directions. The cable is guided and attached to the guide elements so that, upon movement of the cable in one direction, the guide element at one side of the vehicle is pulled in a first axial direction of the vehicle and the guide element at the opposite lateral side of the vehicle is pulled in the same axial direction.

  • Patent number: 3947999
Abstract: A sliding door assembly comprises a door, a door frame, a horizontal rolling track on the frame, and door-suspension units each having a member movably mounted along the track and a door-suspension lever pivotally connected to the member and to the door. A roller connected to the lever by a toggle joint mechanism coacts with a cam as the door is slid to or from a closed position to pivot the lever and thus raise and unseat the door as it is opened, and lower and seat the door as it is closed.

  • Patent number: 3935674
Abstract: A sliding vehicle door has a guard beam therein having flanges at its upper and lower edges. An extruded carriage member is associated with each of the flanges and slidably engages the flange to permit longitudinal movement of the guard beam and the door on the carriage member. A hinge arm is associated with each of the extruded carriage members and has one end pivoted to the carriage member and the other end pivoted to a body pillar defining the door opening. An articulating link acts between the body pillar and one of the carriage members to maintain the door in substantial parallel relationship with the vehicle longitudinal axis during pivotal movement of the hinge arms to move the door laterally of the body between a closed position in the plane of the door opening and an open position laterally outboard of the door opening.
