Operated Vertically To Permit Horizontal Swinging Patents (Class 49/255)
  • Patent number: 9689197
Abstract: The present latch apparatus includes a swinging piece having first and second independent latches or sliders sliding in first and second slots. The first and second sliders slide independently of each other. The first and second sliders engage an undersurface of an extension of a first object such as a gate. If either the first or second slider is engaged on the undersurface, the swinging piece is locked and is not swingable such that the first object such as the gate cannot itself swing away from a second object such as a barrier section. Only when each of the first and second sliders has been slid beyond the undersurface can the swinging piece swing to permit the first object such as the gate to be released and thus swingable itself relative to the second object such as the barrier section.

Abstract: A lift gate latch is used in connection with a lift gate and a handrail on a boat. The handrail has a jamb, and the lift gate has at least one stile. The lift gate latch has left and right side walls spaced apart and disposed adjacent the deck of the boat. Reinforcing ribs extend along both side walls, which straddle the jamb and the stile. A transverse member and a base member extend between the side walls. A portion of the right side wall has a height lower than the left side wall height, so that the stile can pass easily over it when opening and closing the gate. Fasteners pass through holes in the side walls and attach to the deck. Bosses are juxtaposed with the holes. The fasteners and bosses strengthen the side wall adjacent each hole.

Abstract: A piston and geared rack assembly are moved by pressurized air in opposite directions within a power cylinder housing as the vehicle operator registers door closing and opening commands in a solenoid valve. This lateral movement is converted to rotary movement by a pinion gear driven by the rack and coupled to turn a spindle shaft which drives the door. At full stroke during door closing, the power piston actuates a valve to charge the lower chamber of an auxiliary cylinder to move a lift piston rod, movable within the spindle shaft, to raise the closed door into a locked position. Upon a door-open command, the solenoid valve exhausts the charged cylinder chambers, admits air into the upper chamber of the auxiliary cylinder to move the lift piston and rod to lower and release the door, and slowly charges the associated opening chamber. This enables the delayed movement of the power piston and rack assembly in the opposite direction, reversing the rotation of the pinion and spindle shaft, to open the door.

  • Patent number: 4199120
Abstract: A plug type door for a pressurizable aircraft fuselage is mounted by a door hinge assembly for swinging movement into and out of a door opening in the fuselage. The door is composed of three segments that are hinged to each other so that the door can be folded from a fully closed position in which the three segments are serially arranged to completely cover the door opening, into an unplugged position in which the three segments are oriented in a generally Z-shaped configuration. Stop members are mounted on the fuselage adjacent the door opening and cooperate with corresponding stop members on the door to plug or secure the door in the door opening when the door is in a closed position. The stop members on the door and the door opening deregister as the door is folded to free the door for outward swinging movement about the hinge assembly.

  • Patent number: 4197805
Abstract: A fish unloading system for removing fish from the main fish hold of a fishing boat. The lower portion of the main fish hold is filled with water and sufficient salt added to cause the fish to float near the surface of the water. A power-operated self-feeding fish-impelling device having an enclosure arranged in a loop with a discharge aperture formed in its upper portion is lowered into the hold. A plurality of blades or baskets are power driven about the interior of the enclosure. A pump is arranged with its suction in communication with the fish-impelling device to continuously draw water and fish towards the blades or baskets of the impeller so as to continuously propel fish upwardly from the hold. The system is utilized to unload a plurality of auxiliary fish holds connected to the main fish hold by access hatches. Fish in the auxiliary holds are floated through the access hatches by a recirculating flow of water from the main fish hold through the auxiliary holds and back into the main hold.

  • Patent number: 4086727
Abstract: A horizontal pivot window construction. The window includes a window frame having a sill, a head, and a pair of upright jambs which interconnect the ends of the sill with the ends of the head. The window sash is mounted within the frame and the sash includes upper and lower rails and upright stiles which interconnect the opposite ends of the upper and lower rails. Means are provided for supporting the window sash within the window frame for movement of the sash between a closed and locked position and an open and unlocked position. The supporting means includes means for pivotally mounting the sash within the frame for movement about a substantially horizontal axis so as to make the normal exterior side of the window accessible from the interior of the room in which the window is located. The supporting means also includes a member for vertically moving the sash between an upper position and a lower position when the stiles and the jambs are substantially coextensive with each other.

  • Patent number: 3990739
Abstract: A rear door control mechanism for a stack-forming implement having a compressor roof first raises the door vertically to unlatch it and then rotates the door about an elevated and horizontally transverse axis to permit stack unloading. The door control mechanism functions independently of the compression roof and other wagons' mechanical systems and assures positive door unlatching before the opening mechanism attempts to open the door.
