Toothed Lever End Engages Gear Patents (Class 49/342)
  • Patent number: 5440839
Abstract: An operator for controlling movement of a window sash relative to a window frame, including a drive gear pivotable about a central axis substantially perpendicular to one side of the window frame and drivably linked to move the sash, a connector defining first and second pivot axes intersecting at a point and rotatable around the intersection point, a worm pivotable about an axis substantially perpendicular to the central axis and drivably engaging a portion of the drive gear by a helical thread having variable height peaks lying in an annular orientation substantially conforming to the annular orientation of the drive gear portion, and a drive input shaft rotatable about a shaft axis intersecting the worm axis at an angle. The worm, connector and drive shaft are secured whereby the connector is pivotable relative to the worm about the first pivot axis and the connector is pivotable relative to the drive shaft about the second pivot axis.

  • Patent number: 5054239
Abstract: A casement operator for a window has a deployment linkage connectable between the window frame and the base and operable to cause movement of the window sash. A gear drive drives the deployment linkage, which coacts with a sash lock and a lock linkage having a window-actuated trigger. A plurality of rigid links are in pivotal engagement with the deployment linkage and in driving engagement with the gear drive, and a tie rod is disposed intermediate the rigid links and the sash lock. A trip lever with a trigger extending beyond the window frame is pivotally secured to the base and engageable with the lock linkage for restricting the movement of said lock linkage during a non-locking mode of operation of the operator.

  • Patent number: 4945679
Abstract: An opening and closing device for outwardly pivoting frame closures, such as windows includes an operating handle, such as a crank or the like, which is connected to the pivoting frame drive mechanism fitted in the groove of the lower edge of the fixed frame. This drive mechanism includes a translation mechanism driven by the operating handle and actuating the rotation mechanism of the pivoting frame. The mechanism for rotation cooperates with a secondary translation element connected either directly or through a secondary arm to the pivoting frame in order to displace the latter's rotation axis in a plane parallel to that of the fixed frame.

  • Patent number: 4938086
Abstract: A window operator and assembly method therefor wherein a stacked pull arm and gear are rotatably mounted on a bushing carried by a mounting base and the gear and pull arm are assembled to the mounting base with a controlled clearance independent of the tolerance of these components by use of a hardened metal bushing. The hardened metal bushing is forced into the deformable metal of the mounting base whatever distance is necessary to locate an exposed end of the bushing a fixed distance beyond the uppermost of said gear and pull arm and provide a surface against which a washer may be mounted and which overlies the pull arm and gear to hold the components in assembled relation with the controlled clearance.

  • Patent number: 4887392
Abstract: Apparatus for causing a rotatable actuator to effect unlocking of a window latch and then to swing the window sash open when the actuator is rotated in one direction. When the actuator is rotated in the opposite direction, it first causes the sash to swing closed and then causes the latch to lock and hold the sash in its closed position. In one embodiment, the actuator is effective to swing an arm and shift a slide for purposes of moving the sash and operating the latch. In another embodiment, the actuator rotates a lead screw which advances nuts for moving the sash and operating the latch.

  • Patent number: 4866882
Abstract: A window opening mechanism is disclosed which moves the entire window sash outwardly from the window frame in a plane parallel to the plane of the frame. The mechanism for accomplishing this includes a pair of pivoted L-shaped lever arms on each side of the window. The short legs of these lever arms are substantially shorter than the long legs, and the ends of the short legs are pivotally attached to the window frame relatively close together. An operating mechanism is provided for moving the elbows of the lever arms toward and away from one another, and the ends of the long legs of the arms are pivotally connected at spaced apart points on the window sash. As the elbows of the levers on both sides are moved toward one another, the window sash is pulled toward the frame. When the elbows are moved away from one another, the pivoting action of the lever arms causes the window sash to be moved outwardly from the frame to provide a "stand-out" opening of the window.
