  • Patent number: 8397432
Abstract: A door assembly for protecting structural enclosures with an opening with a frame assembly mounted to and surrounding the opening. The enclosures are typically storm shelters. A door panel is hingedly mounted to the frame assembly along a longitudinal hinge axis. Outer and inner lever assemblies are pivotally mounted to fixed reference axes outside of the frame assembly. Force multipliers provide the torque necessary to move the door panel between two extreme positions. The lever assemblies used to create the pertinent moments of force are telescopic, having the longest dimensions that the space permits. Users can readily open and close the heavy hingedly mounted door assemblies. To further facilitate the smooth opening and closing of the door panel, gas spring assemblies and/or coil springs can be utilized.

  • Publication number: 20030217512
Abstract: An apparatus, such as a window in a frame which is mounted in a casing and that can be pivoted 180° within the casing for use on both faces. A pair of concealed hinges mounted, between the casing and the frame, provide pivots about which the frame is rotated. Further, a connector is mounted on opposing faces of the frame. An opening and closing device can be alternately connected and disconnected between the casing and opposing connecters. When disconnected, the frame is rotatable. Once rotated, the opening and closing device is reconnected to the connector on the opposite face of the window. Deformable sealing elements are mounted around the periphery of the frame and on either side of the concealed hinges to provide an air tight seal when the frame is closed.

  • Patent number: 6449902
Abstract: A window shutter unit with a locking mechanism including a frame for mounting upon a wall in surrounding relation to a window and a panel movably supported by the frame. The panel has a vertically oriented rack and an aperture at the bottom of the rack. A rotatable and longitudinally movable shaft is positioned in a passageway through the wall beneath the window. The shaft has a pinion gear for engaging the rack. Rotational movement of the shaft selectively raises or lowers the panel within the frame. Longitudinal movement of the shaft, however, positions the pinion gear within the aperture so as to selectively lock the panel in a raised position.

  • Patent number: 4143556
Abstract: An improved vent operator for controlling the position of an edge opening vent in the roof of a recreational vehicle or the like is disclosed. The vent operator is coupled to an electric motor, manual jamb or crank or the like, and comprises a set of reduction gears and drives two sector arms which raise or lower the vent cover. The gear reduction is accomplished by spur gears which have good mechanical properties. The cost of the entire apparatus is minimized by making the gears from pressed metal, the sector arms from stampings and the housing from castings. The result is a reliable vent operator that can be produced economically in commercial quantities.

  • Patent number: 4068408
Abstract: A vent operator assembly employing a pair of operator arms which simultaneously control the position of an edge opening vent for recreational vehicles and the like. An operator body is secured to the inner side of the recreational vehicle adjacent to the vent opening therein. The body mounts a worm gear extending between a wall of the body and a cup recess in a bridge extending across a sector shaped recess in the body. A pair of operator arms, each including integral gears are journaled in the body from within the sector recess for simultaneous rotation in opposite arcs. The operator arms are relatively rigid except for the outer 16% which is a flexure spring element. Each spring element mounts a roller which engages a track in the edge of the vent cover opposite its hinged side. Upon rotation of a knob connected to the worm gear, the operator arms move simultaneously in the opposite direction to either open or close the vent cover.
