  • Patent number: 7152375
Abstract: A seal integrity verification system scans for changes in impedance in a seal with integral coaxial waveguide, twisted pair wires, parallel ribbon wires or parallel wires. The wires are monitored by a TDR to note changes in impedance. The changes indicate the location where the seal is not under proper compression to ensure a tight fit. This is especially useful in verifying that watertight doors on ships or submarines are sealing properly when shut.

Abstract: A system is disclosed for ensuring a properly aligned position of a pod door within the opening in a pod shell upon location of the pod at a tool load port. The door positioning assembly according to the present invention includes a cam affixed to rotating latch hubs of a pod door latching assembly, and a cam follower mounted around each of the cams, which followers include arm portions that extend out toward an edge of the pod door. When the pod door and shell are separated, the arm portions are held in a retracted position completely contained within the footprint of the pod door. However, upon rejoining the pod door to the pod shell, mechanisms in the port door rotate the latch hub cams. Cam rotation causes translation of the arm portions of the cam followers so that the ends of the arm portions extend out beyond an edge of the pod door and against a surface of the pod shell. In their extended positions, the arm portions maintain a desired vertical positioning of the pod door within the pod shell opening.

  • Patent number: 5305969
Abstract: A latch lock mechanism (20) for opening and closing a translating motion-type aircraft door (22). The latch lock mechanism (20) of this invention includes a latch shaft (38) that is mounted to the door (22) by a set of follower bearings (98) that are axially offset from the shaft. The shaft (38) is rotated by a lift lock mechanism (44) that includes a lift lock cam (106) and a cam follower (108) that tracks the cam, and a door drive linkage (1 10) that is attached to the cam follower for rotating the latch shaft. The lift lock cam (106) is rotated by a handle shaft (42) that is actuated by a handle (40). When the handle (40) is rotated, the lift lock cam (106) is similarly rotated so as to cause the upward movement of the door drive linkage (110) in the rotation of the latch shaft (38).

  • Patent number: 5283979
Abstract: An improved locking feature for a watertight hatch incorporates a positive break-open feature to facilitate opening when the hatch is jammed with ice and/or debris. A plurality of radially extending/retracting locking bars cooperate with closing cams such that, when the bars are extended, the hatch is drawn into tight engagement with a sealing gasket. When the locking bars are fully retracted, in order to release the hatch for opening, at least selected ones of the locking bars cooperate with opening cam means whereby full retraction of the bars forcibly displaces the hatch in an opening direction with a high mechanical advantage, initially breaking the hatch free of any restricting ice formation or packed debris. Thereafter, the hatch may be readily opened by being manually lifted in a conventional manner. The arrangement makes it entirely feasible to configure the hatch cover to be flush with its surroundings, so as to be useable in sidewalks, for example, where there may be heavy pedestrian traffic.

Abstract: A sterilizer is disclosed which includes control circuitry for automatically controlling a plurality of sterilization cycles. The control circuitry operates to control actuation of a door opening mechanism whereby a door of the sterilizer may be automatically opened a small amount at the conclusion of a sterilization cycle whereby the sterilizer may initiate a drying portion of the cycle without the assistance of an operator. In addition, a baffled water reservoir is provided such that a water filling area of the reservoir is separated from a steam recovery area of the reservoir to thereby provide efficient recovery of steam at the conclusion of a sterilization cycle.

  • Patent number: 5216840
Abstract: An apparatus for sealing a movable closure member about an access aperture located within a rigid structure. The movable closure member is sized to cover the access aperture and to provide access through the access aperture when open. A resilient elastomeric gasket is secured to one of the rigid structure or the movable structure to suit design and manufacturing preference. The resilient elastomeric gasket has a hollow cavity disposed within the elastomeric gasket, and the hollow cavity is sealed at each end to form a pressure-equalizing chamber therein. A convex protrusion is positioned on the elastomeric gasket to confront a flat stop positioned upon the other of the rigid structure or the movable structure when the movable structure is closed. A closure means is provided to bias the convex protrusion against the flat stop face with sufficient pressure to partially deform the resilient, elastomeric gasket.

Abstract: The invention relates to a door for an electric switch cabinet comprising a door leaf made of a material isolating from fire and arcs, a hinge construction at a vertical edge of said door leaf and connectable to the cabinet frame, and a locking device cooperating with the door frame at the other vertical edge of said door leaf. In order to obtain an improved hinge construction regarding tightness and strength and to make the door lockable from all sides of the frame, the invention provides a hinge construction comprising a hinge composed of slidably and pivotably interengaging profile elements, latch means provided at the upper and lower edges of the door and being adapted to engage complementary latch means provided at the frame, and a jacking or lifting mechanism for vertically displacing the door via the hinge to bring the latch means and the complementary latch means into and out of engagement relative each other.

  • Patent number: 5083398
Abstract: A remote lock assembly for vertically pivoting windows has two resilient catches mounted in the vertical stile of a window sash one above the other. Opposite the lower catch is a cam housing with a recess in which the lower catch is engaged when the window is in a locked position and containing a cam which, when rotated, rides against the catch to force the catch out of the cam housing to unlock the window. A flapper housing is mounted in the window jamb and has a recess for engaging the second catch. A flapper is pivotally mounted to the flapper housing and pivots between a locked position in which the flapper does not block the housing recess and an unlocked position in which it blocks the housing recess and forces the opposing catch out of the flapper housing recess. A link connects the cam to a bar which slidably extends into the flapper housing. The bar has a protrusion which engages the flapper, such that rotation of the cam operates to disengage both catches from the window jamb.

  • Patent number: RE33790
Abstract: A demountable tonneau cover for enclosing the open top of a pick-up truck cargo box comprises a relatively light-weight laminated panel which fits onto the open top of the cargo box to enclose the cargo space. Two pairs of spring-loaded pins are mounted on the interior of the cover along opposite sides for releasably latching the cover to the sides of the cargo box. These pins are inaccessible from the exterior of the cargo box when the cover is on the box. Cables extend from the spring-loaded pins through passages within the cover to pull handles which are also mounted on the interior of the cover adjacent the rear edge. The pins are normally biased to extended positions for fitting into holes in the sides of the cargo box and thereby latching the cover in place on the cargo box. When the pull handles are operated, the pins are retracted out of the holes thereby allowing the cover to be displaced from the position enclosing the cargo space.
