  • Publication number: 20080127566
Abstract: A casement window assembly includes a rectangular sash frame enclosing an insulated glass panel unit and supported for swinging movement by a surrounding main window support frame. At least one set of interfitting and interlocking members are positioned in opposing relation on adjacent vertical members of the sash frame and support frame in opposing relation and have hook portions positioned to pass each other when the sash frame is pivoted between a closed position and an open position. The hook portions are effective to engage and hook each other in response to a substantial positive or negative windload or such windload applied after an impact breaks the glass to limit deflection and prevent permanent deformation of the sash frame. The hook portions also produce a snubbing action for compressing a flexible seal between the sash frame and support frame.

  • Patent number: 5410846
Abstract: A steel window structure for modern day double paned insulating glass simulating the narrow, elegant sight lines of older steel window structures which secured monolithic, non-insulating glass windows is described. The window securing structure is made deeper and narrower than is currently available in steel windows. This structure now accommodates a single pane of glass of up to 1" thick glass, or up to 1" thick double paned insulating glass. Additionally the new structure inherently provides a thermal break between exterior and interior metal components, the convenient use of two color factory applied finishes for the steel members, and superior air and water resistance over current structures, while at the same time providing the narrow sight lines previously seen only in the older, non-insulating glass steel window structures. Moldings connected to the exterior steel structure provides a "putty slope" shadow effect to complete the simulation of the older steel window structure.

  • Patent number: 4231608
Abstract: A frame extending around an opening in a vehicle roof has a resilient molding adapted to support the perimeter of a curved glass panel to close off the opening. A pair of bayonets projecting in spaced relation to the underside of the forward edge of the panel mates with a recessed member carried by the frame when the panel is inclined with respect to the roof to act as a pivotable hinge allowing motion of the panel between a closed position and that inclined position. A two-part fastener for the rear edge of the panel includes a handle pivotally connected to the underside of the panel and a tongue pivotally connected to the handle and adapted to be retained in a lock member carried by the frame. The handle acts as an over-center linkage to bend the panel against its curvature, forcing its perimeter into engagement with the frame. The lock member includes a recessed portion which is provided with a rib to prevent the inadvertent opening of the lock member when the handle is in a closed position.
